The Lego Ninjago Movie Review

The Lego Ninjago Movie is a 3D animated action comedy marital arts film. It's the first film to be based on an original Lego property, while also being the second spin-off of The Lego Movie. The Lego Ninjago Movie is produced by Warner Animation Group, Lin Pictures, Vertigo Entertainment, and Animal Logic. The movie's distributor is Warner Bros. Pictures. The Lego Ninjago Movie is written by Bob Logan, Paul Fisher, William Wheeler, Tom Wheeler, Jared Stern, and John Whittington and directed by Charlie Bean, Bob Logan, and Paul Fisher.

The story is six teenage ninjas defend the city of Ninjago against Lord Garmadon, who is also Lloyd's aka The Green Ninja's dad. Pitting father against son the team must learn to pull together to unleash the true power of the ninja.

  • Negatives

One of my biggest complaints with the movie is a giant realistic cat that helped Garmadon destroy the city is part of the main plot. If any of you watched the trailers or TV spots you know what I'm talking about. It was so stupid. I understand that's the joke but it was not a very good joke...or plot point.

My other problem with The Lego Ninjago Movie is Lloyd's story with his father Garmadon is predictable. Once one or both of them get sentimental you know something good will happen to them.

  • Mix

The humor in this movie is in a very grey area. Don't worry the there were a lot of times that I did laugh but other times not so much. Some of the jokes can be predictable. One joke that really didn't get me to laugh was two quick montage sequences regrading an ultimate weapon and kung-fu movies had me thinking "was I suppose to find that funny"?

  • Positives

One thing I praise the movie for is the writers changed a lot of stuff from the show Lego Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu. I thought it was a smart move because then there's no confusing between the two continuities. And at the same time if your a fan of Ninjago you'll still know who's who and what's what.

Once again this is another Lego movie with great animation. Besides story that's another reason to see these Lego movies.

The performances in the movie were also good. I especially loved Jackie Chan as Master Wu and Justin Theroux as Lord Garmadon. Not only did they do a great job playing these characters but they were also hilarious as them too.

The Lego Ninjago Movie's best qualities are changing things from the show but still remaining recognizable, spectacular animation, and even better voice performances. The humor isn't bad but at the same time could've used more work. The weakest parts are the father/son story between Lloyd and Lord Garmadon and that stupid cat being a plot point rather than just a one time joke.

My final rating is Okay
