Road to Dark Phoenix - X2: X-Men United Review

X2: X-Men United (aka X2 or X-Men 2) is a 2003 superhero film based on the Marvel Comics' team the X-Men. The movie is a sequel to 2000's X-Men and the second film in the X-Men film series. The story was influenced by the Marvel storylines Return to Weapon X and God Loves, Man Kills. X2: X-Men United was produced by Marvel Enterprise, The Donners' Company and Bad Hat Harry Productions and distributed by 20th Century Fox. The movie was written by Zak Penn, David Hayter, Dan Harris, and Michael Dougherty and directed by Bryan Singer.

The story is after a mutant attack on the President of the United States, Colonel William Stryker suggests an attack on the Xavier School of Gifted Youngsters. Wolverine and the gang think there's something off about all of this so they decide to figure out what's going on. In order to do this the X-Men must team up with Magneto and Mystique to stop this common enemy.

I've got nothing to say. Let's move on.

  • Positives

One of the many great things about this movie is how all of our main characters are fleshed out. We get more of them on an emotional level and get to know more about how they feel about being mutants.

Now much like the first movie we explore the politics of how people feel about mutants. Now I thought the first movie did that well but here I think it was done better. Mainly because while the first movie was about how politicians feel about mutants X2: X-Men United went with how ordinary people feel. I'm mean that scene with Iceman and his family will really strike a core with you.

Our villain for this movie is William Stryker. Boy are you going to hate this guy. Seriously he's an awesome bad guy. I mean he's making his own mutant son do some messed up things that made my skin crawl.

Another thing I liked about the movie was there is quite a bit of humor in it. It's not jokes that will ruin an emotional moment or any action scene. It's humor when it's appropriate. Today this day I think one of the many best moments in the film is Wolverine's reaction when he see's Lady Deathstrike's powers.

The final thing I'll praise the movie for is the action. You'll definitely be in for a thrill ride for with this movie. Don't believe watch this opening scene with Nightcrawler.

If you look at this and say this scene doesn't make you want to watch the movie. You my friend are a lair.

X2: X-Men United is one of many great sequels. Our characters whether they be the good guys or the bad guys are developed perfectly, we dive more into how people feel about mutants (seriously that scene with Iceman and his family is amazing), William Stryker is a great villain, the humor is nice and doesn't ruin anything, and the action is badass.

My final rating is A Must Watch

Well that's going to do it for me. Come back on Saturday, February 23rd for my review of How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. Until then enjoy the rest of your day.
