So I don't know if any of you know this, but the creator of this show (J.G. Quintel) has a new show coming in three days to HBO Max called Close Enough. And having been a fan of this show I thought it would be fun to review Regular Show before Close Enough comes out. So let's begin.
Regular Show is an animated comedy series that premiered on Cartoon Network on Sept 6th, 2010 and ended on Jan 16th, 2017. Giving the show eight seasons and 261 episodes. Regular Show was produced by Cartoon Network Studios and distributed by Warner Bros. Television Distribution. The show was created by J.G. Quintel.
The series revolves around a blue jay named Mordecai and a racoon named Rigby working at a local park. Nine times out of ten their adventures start off simple enough but soon dive into something ranging from surreal to supernatural. So when that happens they have to clean it up or get fired.
- Negatives
I've got nothing to say. Let's move on.
- Mix
One grey area with the cartoon is the writing. While in my opinion you do get a lot of good episodes you also sadly get some bad ones. Which is the case for every show unfortunately. Sometimes episodes have a rushed pace, the humor didn't work, or the characters are written out of character. But I feel like that can be forgiven because often times the really good episodes overshadow those bad ones.
- Positive
One element that made Regular Show enjoyable was the characters. You can tell each of them apart, they're given good development, their chance to shine, and they're very relatable. My favorite is Rigby by the way.
Another thing I liked about the show was just how quickly things would escalate. Because you'd think everything would just be normal then out of nowhere things take a surreal turn. It really made for some good entertainment.
What I also came to like about Regular Show was the animation. I thought it was really well executed and also enjoyed. It was especially fun because often times it gets crazy, disturbing, and trippy.
Regular Show is definitely one of my favorite cartoons. It has wonder/likable characters who get to see grow, escalation of events was entertaining, and the animation is good. And while the writing wasn't always that great it can be forgiven once a lot of really good episodes followed through.
My final rating is Great
Okay so that's all for me today. Come back on Saturday, Jul 11th for my review of Netflix's The Old Guard. Until then enjoy the rest of your day.
