The Top 8 Elseworlds Stories I Want To Be Movies

Related image

Seven days ago I reviewed the animated movie Batman: Gotham by Gaslight. In that review I mentioned how it was the very first Elseworlds story. But for any of you who aren't comic book readers you're probably wondering what is Elseworlds? What it was a series of comic books where DC Comics' characters were set in a different universe as suppose to the main continuity. Such as instead of Superman being a good guy he would be a bad guy, stories like that. And since Batman: Gotham by Gaslight will be released on DVD/Blu-Ray in five days I decided to countdown and tell you which Elseworlds stories I would like to be movies. Now I haven't read every single one of these so I'm only counting down the ones I have read. So let's get started.

#8. Batgirl & Robin: Thrillkiller

Now the reason why I want Thrillkiller to be a movie is because for once while Batman or should I say Bruce Wayne is a character but he's not the main focus. The focus is on Batgirl and Robin. Also DC never animated a story that felt like a 1960's gangster movie so that would be pretty cool. And DC did have plans to make a Batgirl: Year One film but they cancelled that. So I think Thrillkiller could make up for that. That's if they decided to do the Batgirl: Year One movie and save this for next time.

#7. Batman: Two Faces

I'll only give you brief description of this story. It's a Batman story with elements of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Yeah that sounds interesting doesn't it? And it's not just Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde there's also an akin to Jack the Ripper and a certain character's fate mirroring that of Barbara Gordon's fate in Batman: The Killing Joke. So with all these elements in this one story we could have a very interesting movie.

#6. The Superman Monster

I have two reasons why this should be a movie. Reason one if DC does make a Batman: Two Faces movie and if they want to a make a sequel well make The Superman Monster. The comic after all is the sequel to Batman: Two Faces so only makes sense to make it a movie out of it. Reason two filmwise we've never seen Superman in any horror like genre. So making The Superman Monster would help separate it from other live-action or animated Superman movies. Also the premise is definitely creative. What if Superman was in place of Frankenstein? Sounds ridiculous but read the story it's way better than my short version.

#5. The Batman & Dracula Trilogy

Now if none you understand this one let me explain. The Batman & Dracula Trilogy is when Batman goes toe to toe with the King of the Vampires himself Dracula. Then over the course of the story Batman himself becomes a vampire. Now I've got plenty of reasons why this should be a movie. It's going to get a little longer than most so let's get started. Reason #1 with DC making more rated r movies this story is just begging to be an animated film. Reason #2 "Vampire Batman" has made a lot of appearances in other DC Comics media. Elements of the story were used in the 2005 animated movie The Batman vs. Dracula, Vampire Batman made an appearance in the cartoon show Batman: The Brave and The Bold, and we got a little bit of this character in the 2015 animated movie Justice League: Gods and Monsters. So DC might as well get it over with a just make a movie trilogy around  Vampire Batman already. Reason #3 this is one of DC's most loved Elseworlds stories and there are plenty of fans out there who's jaws would drop if there was an announcement then digitally download it or wait a few days later and buy a physical copy of it.

#4. Elseworld's Finest: Supergirl and Batgirl

Now if DC ever decides to make a Supergirl/Batgirl team-up movie they could make an original story much like they did with Batman and Harley Quinn or they could look no further than Elseworld's Finest: Supergirl and Batgirl. One my main reason for me wanting this to be a movie is the concept. Which is what would the world be like if Clark Kent/Kal-El didn't survive thus not becoming Superman and Bruce Wayne didn't become Batman instead it's Supergirl and Batgirl that are the World's Finest.

#3. Superman: Secret Identity

The reason why I feel like Superman: Secret Identity should be made into a movie is because it's one of the many great Superman stories told. Another reason is the story is what would it be like if you woke up one day and you have Superman's powers. Not only did the comic give us a good story but I also feel as though a movie could do the same. It might get people interested in the comic book.

#2. Superman: Red Son

Now not only is Superman: Red Son a great Superman but if DC plays their cards they could make this a great DC animated movie. The reason being while Superman in this story was raised by communist he's still trying to do the right thing even thought some say otherwise. So with brilliant writing and a good animation team behind them this would be a great movie.

#1. Kingdom Come

Yeah you all probably saw this one coming. Well let me explain why Kingdom Come is my number one choice. Basically while some see this graphic novel as one of the best Superman stories ever written I see as one of the best DC Comics stories ever written. The story is there's a new age of dangerous and amoral vigilantes protecting the world but the more "traditional" superheroes step in to show them that their way isn't the right way. But while that's happening a world-ending superhuman war is brewing. With a short synopsis like that who wouldn't want this to be an animated movie. The only reason I feel like it wouldn't be made is because the animators would like to make it seem the comic leaped off the page into a film. And they would need some very skilled animators to do that. But I hope eventually this gets made into a movie.

So those were my picks and I hope you agree with all or at least some of them. Anyhow that's going to do it for me. I'll have another countdown list in March only it won't be as positive since I'm counting down six internet critics who I think are the worst.
