A Look Back at Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (or just Rogue One) is a 2016 epic space opera. It's the first film in the Star Wars Anthology film series and a prequel to Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was produced by Lucasfilm Ltd. and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The movie was written by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy and directed by Gareth Edwards.

The story is a group of rebels are on a mission to steal the Empire's plans for their ultimate weapon the Death Star. During this dangerous mission they will face many challenges to get the plans to other rebels.

  • Negatives

That tentacle monster scene. What the hell was that? I mean I understand what the scene was going for but it just felt like one huge WTF moment.

  • Mix

The only thing the film should have spent more time on is the character development of our main heroes. Throughout the movie we kind of get an idea of who they are but other times not so much.

  • Positives

One thing I liked about Rogue One was that it shows a darker side to the rebel alliance. There's a scene where one of the characters shoots someone in the back after they got information about the empire. It was a well executed scene that shows the rebels aren't as clean as the previous Star Wars films have shown.

Another thing to enjoy from Rogue One is the cinematography. We get a lot of beautiful shots in this film. Some of which I couldn't take my eyes off.

Rogue One finally gave us an answer to why the Death Star would of a hole that would blow up the empire's entire station. I won't give it away but what I will say is that it's a great middle finger/payback moment for a character's father.

Rogue One continues Star War's tradition of having amazing and breathtaking final battle. It was just a spectacular final act that it's worth sitting through the entire movie for.

My final complement to this movie is that Darth Vader scene near the end. That scene was so badass and one if not the best part of the entire film. That scene was pure Vader.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is not in anyway a flawless movie but it's still an enjoyable experience. Showing the a dark side to the rebel alliance was a good idea, I loved some of the shots the film contains, giving us an answer to why the Death Star has such an obvious weakness, a sensational final battle, and an amazing Darth Vader scene. While your not going to get enough character development you'll still root for them. The only bad thing in the film was that weird tentacle scene. Seriously what was that?

My final rating is Good
