Black Sheep Review

 

Okay, after reviewing Tucker & Dale vs. Evil not too long ago I just wanted to review another horror-comedy movie. And this one caught my attention just for the tagline alone.

Black Sheep is a 2006 New Zealand horror-comedy film. The movie was produced by New Zealand On Air, New Zealand Film Commission, The Daesung Group, Escapade Pictures, Singlet Films, and Live Stock Films and distributed by New Zealand Film Commission. Black Sheep was written and directed by Jonathan King.

The story is Henry returns home, his brother is hoping his sibling will buy out his part of farm property. Things seem to be normal until the sheep start acting really weird. They soon discover that sheep have been generically altered and are now carnivores. Now Henry and new friends must put a stop to these new dangerous predators.

One thing to love about this movie is despite it being made from New Zealand for New Zealand in the end that really didn't matter. Because if you watch the movie this can be enjoyed by everybody no matter where they're from.

What I also loved about Black Sheep is it's out right insanity. This is probably the craziest film I've seen all year. I mean it's a movie about killer man-eating sheep and yet it works. There's even something else to the sheep bite that I didn't even see coming and it was amazing.

Another thing about the movie that I didn't expect to be good was they actually pulled off making a sheep looking scary. I mean it there's some shots were the puppet or animatronic actually looks pretty creepy and off putting. So way to go filmmakers.

One other thing that was great about the film were the effects. It's all practical and it's all very well done. Black Sheep's effects have actually aged pretty than most films that came out a year or a couple months ago. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised since the company has also helped with a lot of Peter Jackson films.

The final thing I'll give Black Sheep credit for is it's dark humor. This was a pretty funny movie. The best joke of all is one similar to Killer Klowns from Outer Space, where despite how insane the threat is the characters still play it straight.

Black Sheep is definitely a horror-comedy I recommend watching. Even though it's a New Zealand movie everybody can have fun with it, it has balls to the walls insanity to it, the sheep are actually made to be scary, the effects get two thumbs up, and the dark humor is quite enjoyable.

My final rating is A Must Watch
