There's Someone Inside Your House Review

There's Someone Inside Your House is a slasher film and an adaptation of Stephanie Perkins' 2017 novel of the same name. The movie is produced by Atomic Monster Productions and 21 Laps Entertainment and distributed by Netflix. There's Someone Inside Your House is written by Henry Gayden and directed by Patrick Brice.

The story is Makani Young has just moved to the quiet town of Nebraska to live with her grandmother and finish high school. When the countdown to graduation begins so does a series of horrific murders. Makani and her fellow classmates not only know the killer is out to get them because each of every one of them has a deep dark secret they're hiding, but they also need to know who is next?

Initial Reaction

My main reason for wanting to see this one was because of the writer, Henry Gayden. He's written some pretty good stuff. I liked Earth to Echo, Shazam! was awesome, and I'm even curious of what he's going to do for the sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods. So because Henry was part of this project I was very much curious of what he'll do in the horror genre.

Cons

The biggest problem with the movie and this is something that really brings the movie down, and that's there's not enough mystery going around. Because of that you really are gonna find out who the killer is before you even get to the third act. Maybe if there was more killings or maybe the killer playing more mind games, then maybe this wouldn't have been much of a problem.

Middle Ground

The only grey area is the characters. Makani is good, but the other characters either range from okay to forgettable.

Pros

One pro to There's Someone Inside Your House is the kills. Like a lot of slashers you get some bloody and brutal kills. Another positive which relates back to the kills, and that's they're practical. At first I was worried they would use CGI, but thankfully they didn't go that route. The last thing I'll give credit where credit is due is that concept of the killer making a replica of the victims' face as a mask. That is both creative and twisted.

There's Someone Inside Your House is an alright movie. It has great kills, good practical effects, and that mask concept is actually pretty terrifying. The only truly developed character was Makani while everyone else was either okay or forgettable. The real downside is there wasn't enough mystery to the story.

My final rating is Okay.

That's going to do it for me. Come back on Monday, Oct 11th for my Underrated Films review of Wes Craven's The People Under the Stairs. Until then, enjoy the rest of your day.
