Christopher Robin Review

Christopher Robin is a fantasy comedy-drama film inspired by A.A. Milne's book Winnie the Pooh and a live-action remake of the Disney franchise also named Winnie the Pooh. It's produced by Walt Disney Pictures and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Christopher Robin is written by Alex Ross Perry and Allison Schroeder and directed by Marc Forster.

The story is Christopher Robin is now a working-class family man. One day Christopher encounters Pooh and his friends from the Hundred Acre Woods re-enter his life. During this reunion of friends they want to help him enjoy his life just like he did when he was a boy.

Initial Reaction

Now I was definitely looking forward to this movie because come on who doesn't love Winnie the Pooh? The main thing that caught my interest was how it was different to some of the Winnie the Pooh stories I saw as a kid. Whenever I saw something Winnie the Pooh related it was always happy and Christopher Robin was still a kid. But now this story comes around and instead of doing another misadventure with the gang Disney decided to tell a story of Winnie meeting an older Christopher.

Cons

One issue I had with Christopher Robin was the opening. The opening of the film starts off as a book that's animated then it turns into live-action. And the opening would do that it would be animated then live-action then it would be animated. It did over and over again.

Middle Ground

Now sometimes the film does have pacing problems. There are times when the film is moving forward at a reasonable time but then it would slow down. Which can make some parts of this movie feel like it's stretching out it's runtime.

Pros

One thing I loved about this film is of course Pooh. He's just as lovable as you probably remember him. What I think you'll also love about the film is the humor. One of the funniest scenes that got a big laugh in the theater was a grown up Christopher Robin and Eeyore. Another thing to enjoy is Ewan McGregor's performance. He really did play a Christopher Robin who was exhausted from his job and just wanted to spend time with his family. Now the film has a message of putting your family first. And it does a good job giving that message. It's not the greatest but it's still good.

Christopher Robin is by no means Disney's best film but I still had a good time. Pooh is still the kind hearted bear we remember him, the humor is enjoyable, McGregor's performance was great, and the message about friends and family while not great was still a good moral. The film does contain pacing issue but nothing to serious. My only problem was that opening.

My final rating is Good
