A Look Back at Titans - Season 1

With Titans having their season two premiere tomorrow I decide to take a look back at the first season.

Titans is web series created by Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, and Greg Berlanti for the app DC Universe. The series is produced by Weed Road Pictures, Berlanti Productions, DC Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Televison and distributed by Warner Bros. Television Distribution. This season consist of eleven episodes.

The story is a young girl named Rachel Roth is possessed by a dark power. One day someone from a cult kills her mother and she is now on the run, then she runs into Detective Dick Grayson (aka Robin). Throughout this mystery Dick discovers something that'll bring Hell to Earth. Now Dick must form a team with Raven, Beast Boy, and Starfire to stop this up and coming threat.

  • Negatives

I've got nothing to say. Let's move on.

  • Mix

One thing that's in a grey area with this show is the special effects. Now the more practical ones are pretty good however when it comes to the more CGI ones they range from good to pretty obvious.

The other mix bag is the season finale. While entertaining there wasn't anything about it that says "season finale". Especially since it's basically a cliffhanger for the next season.

  • Positives

One thing I like about the show is the dark tone. It's especially enjoyable because the last two Teen Titans shows (2003's Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go!) were lighter in tone so seeing a Titans show go a different route is very welcoming.

Now even though I talked about how much I love the darker tone I will admit there are bits of humor. What makes the jokes work is there's very few of them. There far between and subtle.

The other thing I've come to like about the show is the Titans themselves. Dick Grayson (Robin) has an interesting backstory relating to his fallout with Batman, Starfire's past is kept in mystery and she is a total badass, Rachel Roth (Raven) you just can't help but feel sorry for what with her powers and this cult that's after her. Then we have Garfield Logan (Beast Boy) who is the lightest character of the bunch. With that characterization he was the one that really brings some of the more humorous moments of the show which is definitely going to make him a fan favorite.

Another thing that was entertaining about this season is the performances. All of the actors do a fantastic job playing their respected characters and there wasn't one performance that I felt like was bad.

The final aspect I'll praise about the show is the action. Not only are they fun to watch they are pretty brutal. Seriously those scenes hold nothing back, if someone's getting a bloody nose someone's getting a bloody nose and then some.

Titans (Season 1) is definitely a pretty good show. The dark tone is a big but welcomed surprise, the humor is good, you really feel for the characters, the performances are all done to great effects, and the action is entertaining and intense. The only grey areas are some of the special effects and the season finale.

My final rating is Good

So yeah season one of this show was good and I'm definitely looking forward to season two. Anyways that's all for me, come back on Saturday, September 7th for my review of It: Chapter Two. Until then enjoy the rest of your day.
