Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans is a direct-to-video animated comic book film based on the animated cartoon series Teen Titans Go!. The movie is produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment and distributed by Warner Home Video. Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans is written by Marly Halpern-Graser and Jeremy Adams and directed by Jeremy Mednikow.

The story is the Go! versions of the Titans have been summoned to do battle with the 2003 versions of themselves. But then both Ravens has been abducted by both the Titans' version of Trigon in an effort to cause chaos to the multiverse. Now both teams of Titans must put aside their differences in order to save their Ravens and the multiverse itself.

Initial Reaction

I was quite interested in this movie because I grew up with the 2003 version of the Teen Titans and in all honesty I don't think Teen Titans Go! is as bad as people are making it out to be. No, I don't think it's the greatest show ever but it's certainly not the worst. So being a fan of the 2003 version having a crossover film with the Go! version did make want to watch this movie.

Cons

I've got nothing to say. Let's move on.

Middle Ground

Now there are two areas of the movie that are a mix bag. One of those being the animation. Now it is fine, it's definitely not as cinematic as it was in Teen Titans Go! To the Movies but it's fine for what it's worth. However it does look odd on the 2003 version of the Titans. Like there are times where they look good but other times they look like cardboard. The other grey area is the 2003 Titans' characterization. In the movie they're treated like the super serious ones even going as far as to need to learn from the Go! versions of Titans to relax. I find this odd because how many times have we've seen the 2003 version of the Titans eating pizza and playing video games? But other than that the 2003 versions of treated with respect. There wasn't anytime where I thought it was clear the writers were trying to make the Go! Titans the superior ones.

Pros

One thing I enjoyed about the movie was it's sense of humor. There are a lot of moments that'll get a laugh out of you. From the two Titans teams taking shots at each other, to them going to other universes or fighting a holiday icon, the movie is quite an hilarious ride. The other part of the movie to enjoy is all of the easter eggs. This movie just isn't these two teams the filmmakers explored all different versions of the Teen Titans whether they existed in the comics or were made up for the movie. Now let's talk about the voice acting, I felt like the cast did a great job voice the two different times. Especially since they do make an effort for both versions to sound different from each other. The final thing I'll give the movie credit for is the action. I'll admit it's not anything that's going to set the animation world on fire but for what it's worth it does provide some entertainment value.

Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans isn't a movie that's going to be on the "best films of 2019 list" and that's fine because it did it's job of being a entertaining movie about the two teams. What with it's funny moments, all of the easter eggs, good voice work from the cast, and some fun action scenes. The only mix bag was the animation and some slight mis-characterization of the 2003 Teen Titans.

My final rating is Good

Alright everyone I'm all done with this review. Come back on Saturday, September 28th for my review of DreamWorks Animation's newest feature film Abominable. Until then enjoy the rest of your day.
