Annabelle: Creation Review

Annabelle: Creation is a supernatual horror film and it's the prequel to Annabelle and the fourth film in The Conjuring universe. It's produced by New Line Cinema, Atomic Monster Productions, The Safran Company, and RatPac Entertainment. Annabelle: Creation was distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film is written by Gary Dauberman and directed by David F. Sandberg.

The story is former toy maker Samuel Mullins and his wife Esther have let a nun and six orphaned girls live in their house. Then one of the girls find what seems to be an innocent doll but they soon discover that it's not what it seems to be.

  • Negatives

One of my biggest complaints is the jump scares. I absolutely hate jump scares in a horror movie whether it's good, decent, or bad. It's just one of the most cheapest methods to scare an audience with.

  • Mix

I've got nothing to say. Let's move on.

  • Positives

This film does something that the previous Annabelle movie lacked and that was atmosphere. Throughout the movie you get an uneasy feeling.

The backstory to how Annabelle came to be was pretty good. I don't want to give it away all I'm going to say is it is a satisfying origin.

Despite me complaining about all the jump scares there are some moments that are terrifying. One moment that scared the hell out of me was when Janice was being chased by a demon. That was an intense scene.

Another thing to like about Annabelle: Creation is the performances. Usually I play favorites when it comes to acting but here I think everybody did a great job.

The movie also did an excellent job expanding The Conjuring franchise. I'm not going to give any spoilers. All I'll say is if your a fan of this series I think you'll get excited about the ending and a special post-credit scene setting up the next Conjuring spin-off.

Annabelle: Creation has incredible atmosphere, a pretty good backstory to the Annabelle doll, good scary moments, all the actors gave great performances, and the film really helped expand the series' world. The only problem I had with it was the jump scares.

My final rating is Good
