The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature Review

The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature is a 3D animated comedy film and the sequel to the 2014 film The Nut Job. It's produced by Open Road Films, ToonBox Entertainment, Gulfstream Pictures, and Red Rover Intention and distributed by Open Road Films. It's written by Cal Brunker, Bob Barlen, and Scott Bindley and directed by Cal Brunker.

The story is Surly and his friends are enjoying their lives at the park. But Oakton City's mayor wants to bulldoze it and replace it with an unsafe amusement park. To stop this Surly and his friends team up with a territorial street mouse gang leader Mr. Feng to stop the mayor's plan.

  • Negatives

One of the biggest things I couldn't stand in this film was the Mayor's daughter. She was unbearable throughout the whole thing. She was always speaking in this high-pitched bratty voice it was hard to listen to her speak.

Another thing I didn't like was the Mayor. He was just your typical generic villain. He was so generic that he evilly laughs after the end of his diabolical sentences. I'm not kidding I swear he did that like six times.

There was this incredibly gross scene involving Frankie (the Mayor's daughter's dog) and Precious and their own vomit. I'm just gonna leave it at that.

  • Mix

In the first movie Surly was a very questionable protagonist. He is kind of like in the first maybe 10 minutes but then through the rest of the movie he's definitely a huge improvement from the previous film.

The Humor is 50/50. Their are jokes that will get a laugh out of you and other times you can tell when a joke is coming.

  • Positives

We get a pretty good story of how Surly and Buddy became friends. I'm not lying I actually enjoyed that backstory.

Like the first movie this one has good animation. I'm still amazed by how the animators put some effort with the animals fur.

The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature while still isn't a great animated movie you can still watch it and find something enjoyable. My only problems were the annoying daughter, the Mayor being a stock bad guy, and that vomit scene with the dogs. The grey areas are Surly's personality and the humor. The best parts are how Buddy and Surly became friends and the animation.

My final rating is Okay
