Raiders of The Lost Media - Star Wars Detours

Disclaimer: I could be wrong on some details. So take this post with a grain of salt.

First Trailer and Clips from New Animated Show STAR WARS: DETOURS ...

Welcome back to Raiders of The Lost Media and this time I tell you about a cancelled Star Wars show. A show that I was actually looking forward to.

Part One - Star Wars Detours' Premise

The shows premise was described like this Star Wars Detours is an animated comedy that explores what daily life is like in a galaxy far, far away. There are no Empires striking back or attacking clones here. Instead Star Wars Detours focuses on the universe's regular folks and their everyday problems... which, to be fair do frequently involve famous bounty hunters, crazed Ewoks, and even a Dark Lord of the Sith. Welcome to Star Wars Detours the other side of the stars, between the wars. The show would have taken place between Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope. Detours would have had three general locations they would have been Coruscant, the Death Star, and Tatooine. Each skit for each episode was divided into three six-minute segments.

Part Two - Announcement & Production

Back in June, 2009 George Lucas revealed that a new animated Star Wars series was in development. In 2012 during Star Wars Celebration VI, it was announced that the new show would be a comedy series. Writers were hired from a number of sci-fi and comedy shows including writers from The Simpsons, Family Guy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Battlestar Galactica, SpongeBob SqaurePants, and The Daily Show. Some of the animation for the series was done by The Monk Studio, a visual effects and animation studio located in Thailand, who previously worked with Lucasfilm on their animated movie Strange Magic. Star Wars Detours had a very big number of actors such as Ahmed Best (Jar Jar Binks), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Seth Green (Obi-Wan Kenobi), Catherine Taber (Princess Leia), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), and Seth McFarlane (Palpatine). The list also included Dee Bradley Baxer, Abraham Benrubi, Felicia Day, Donald Faison, Nat Faxon, Jennifer Hale, Zachary Levi, Joel McHale, Brekin Meyer, Dan Milano, Cree Summer, and Weird Al Yankovic, and Grey DeLisle, each of them had unspecific roles.

Part Three - Cancellation

On March 11, 2013, Lucasfilm announced that the series has been postponed what with the upcoming sequel trilogy after rethinking whether releasing a comedy series prior to the upcoming films "made sense". In 2014 Seth Green and Matthew Senreich producers for Star Wars Detours said that the series would eventually be released, but as of right now nothing about the show's future has been announced.

Part Four - Footage & Number of Episodes

In September of 2014, Seth Green said that their were 39 episodes completed along with 62 additional scripts finished. The only footage we have of the show is this trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMVrMP8us6Q and the other footage is from a YouTube channel named Star Wars HoloNet who has a playlist containing six videos of the show https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYRHngrc4o0&list=PLoB-KOUbSNa4gIBsE6IwC6myvyscfGDGk.

So that concludes another Raiders of The Lost Media. Come back next time in September because for the first time ever this segment will talk about a lost comic book story arc.
