A Look Back at Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam (2010)

Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam (2010)

Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam is short animated comic book film based on the DC Comics' characters of Superman, Shazam, and Black Adam. The short film was produced by DC Comics, Warner Animation, and Warner Premiere and distributed by Warner Home Video. Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam was written by Michael Jelenic and directed by Joaquim Dos Santos.

The story is one day Clark Kent wants to interview young Billy Batson about how ruff street kids are having it in Fawcett City. During this interview Black Adam appears and causes chaos. Superman tries to stop him but just isn't getting the job done. Then Shazam joins the fight. Can both these men stop Black Adam or will they be defeated?

  • Negatives

My only real problem with the movie is Jerry O'Connell as Captain Marvel. The voice he gave just made Cap sound like he was a teenager. Which is weird. Because he sounded way older in Justice League Unlimited.

  • Mix

I've got nothing to say. Let's move on.

  • Positives

One thing I liked about the movie is the character designs. The artist for Return of Black Adam really made each character different from the other. No two characters or more look exactly the same.

Another thing to enjoy about the film is how they easily and quickly told Billy Batson's origin story. It hit all the major parts and it did without feeling like the story had to slow down or pause for a moment.

The feature of Superman/Shazam that makes the a blast to watch is Black Adam. He's definitely shown to be a big threat. Especially with how ruthless he is. For crying out loud he wanted to kill Billy even before he got his powers.

My final prasie to the film is the action. The moment Black Adam meets Clark and Billy it's a non-stop thrill ride. My favorite is when Superman and Captain Marvel tag team Black Adam.

Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam is a fun short film. The character designs are easy to differentiate from each other, Captain Marvel's origin was told perfectly, Black Adam was a good villain, and the action was great. The only downside is O'Connell's strangely young Captain Marvel voice.

My final rating is Great

Okay everyone I'm done for the day. Come back on Saturday, April 6th for my review of the newest edition to the DCEU, Shazam! Until then enjoy the rest of your day.
