X-Men: First Class (or as it's shown onscreen X: First Class) is a 2011 superhero film based on the Marvel Comics' team X-Men. the movie is the fifth installment of the X-Men film series. The movie is produced by Marvel Entertainment, The Donners' Company, Bad Hat Harry Productions, Dune Entertainment, and Ingenious Film Partners and distributed by 20th Century Fox. X-Men: First Class was written by Matthew Vaughn, Jane Goldman, Ashley Edward Miller, and Zack Stentz and directed by Matthew Vaughn.
The story is in 1962 during the height of the Cold War. Charles Xavier meets Erik Lensherr. They both have a goal to stop a mutant named Sebastian Shaw and his group named The Hellfire Club. Knowing they don't stand a chance with just the two of them they decide to form their own team. With this new group they must do whatever it takes to stop the Hellfire Club.
- Negatives
My only real problem with the film is it sometimes drags. There were a few scenes that could get pretty wordy.
- Mix
I've got nothing to say. Let's move on.
- Positives
One thing I liked about First Class was how gritty it was. Now yes the first two films were like that too. But then we got X-Men: The Last Stand where it felt they wanted to go with a gritty tone but they also wanted to be just a little tiny bit light hearted what with the more comedic scenes. With X-Men: First Class we go back to the more serious tone that the first films gave us.
The other aspect of the film you'll like is the action. Matthew Vaughn gave us awesome action scenes with the Kick-Ass films, but where those films didn't need lots of special effects like this one does, thankfully and lucky he prove he can handle an action film that required a lot of special effects. The action was awesome. Especially during they third act that's were things get really intense.
Another thing you'll like about First Class is Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw. I don't know any other villain roles that Bacon as played but if there anything like this I would like to watch them. Seriously, I don't think he gets enough credit playing this character.
The other feature that makes the movie so great is the performances. Mostly from James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender. They were so good in these roles that it sucks we're not gonna see them play these characters again when Dark Phoenix is said and done. They have so much great chemistry throughout the whole movie.
If you weren't satisfied with X-Men: The Last Stand then X-Men: First Class will make you love this film series again. It has a great gritty tone, the action was spectacular, Kevin Bacon played a great bad guy, and the performances from McAvoy and Fassbender were amazimg. The only real bad thing about the film is some scenes drag on way more than they should.
My final rating is Great
Wow, I can't believe I'm only two films away from being done with this review series. Other than that come back on Monday, April 22nd when I return to the Road to Toy Story 4 with my review of Toy Story 2. Until then enjoy the rest of your day.
