Road to Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker - Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones Review

Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones is a 2002 epic space opera and the sequel to Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace as well as the second installment of the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy. The movie was produced by Lucasfilm Ltd. and distributed by 20th Century Fox. Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones was written by George Lucas and Jonathan Hales and directed by George Lucas.

The story is it's been ten years since the events of the Battle of Naboo. Padme Amidala is now a Senator representing her homeworld. Because of her high rank there are many assassination attempts on her life. Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker have been summoned to protect her and investigate why this is happening. During the investigation Obi-Wan discovers there's more to this than they realize.

  • Negatives

I've got nothing to say. Let's move on.

  • Mix

Alright I'm going to come out and just say it. Now feel free to leave anytime because I'm pretty sure this will piss people off. I don't think the love story between Anakin and Padme is all that bad. Yes at the beginning of the movie it's bad. The rest of it the other hand it's fine. That's it. It's not the greatest thing ever it's just okay. I think it could have been done had the editors cut out the part where Anakin says he dreams about her and that one moment where he says "or be with the people I love". Just get rid of those scenes and would have been alright.

The other aspect of Attack of the Clones where it's a mix bag for is Hayden Christensen's performance. He does have some bad moments in the movie but other times he's pretty good. The best moment is when he finds his dying mother.

The other grey area the movie is the visual effects. Much like The Phantom Menace there are some really astounding CG other times no. There just not good. I mean look at this picture of Mace Windu with a group of clone troopers.

So yes. Moments like the one above are bad but other special effects moments are good.

  • Positives

Now that I got all of that out of the way let's tell you guys about some goods with Attack of the Clones. One of the best things is Obi-Wan. He gets a lot more development this time around. More so than what he got in The Phantom Menace.

The other thing I enjoyed from Star Wars: Episode II was the action. Once again in the prequel trilogy we get breathtaking action sequences. That third act especially. Seriously that part was the best thing in the entire movie.

Another feature to like about the movie is some of the techniques they use. For instance did you know you can hear Qui-Gon Jinn's voice trying to contact Anakin. Those tiny things actually do the movie some sort of justice.

The final thing I'll give the movie credit for the introduction to new characters. Jango Fett is just as much of a badass as his son Boba Fett and Mace Windu is also a welcomed edition to the film series.

Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones is by now mean a perfect sequel film nor a great film in general, but I do feel as though it gets way too much hate. Obi-Wan's development was handled nicely, the action was great, the small detailed techniques are a nice touch, and some of the new characters (mostly Jango and Mace) are pretty good. The three things that really could have used more work were the love story between Anakin and Padme, Hayden Christensen's performance, and the visual effects.

My final rating is Okay

So yes I for the most part liked Attack of the Clones but still know it's not a great movie. Anyways that's going to do it for me. Come back on Saturday, April 27th for my review of Avengers: Endgame. Until then enjoy the rest of your day.
