Welcome back to Raiders of The Lost Media and for the first time ever I tell you about a lost comic book storyline. I tell you about the story behind Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures' The Forever War.

Part One - Who are The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?

For any of you who don't know the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are a team of four teenage anthropomorphic turtles named Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo. They were trained by their rat sensei named Splinter in the art of Ninjutsu. The Turtles defend their home New York City from petty criminals, evil overlords, mutated creatures, and alien invaders while at the same time remain hidden from society. They were created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird and the first issue was released in May of 1984. Surprisingly despite the strange premise it was a huge success. The Ninja Turtles franchise has been almost everything they've had six movies that span from 1990 to 2016, three animated series with a fourth one that's planned to come out in fall of 2018, a live-action show titled Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation, food tie-ins, video games, and merchandise lots and lots of merchandise. They even had a concert tour but no Ninja Turtle fan likes to talk about that. And their comic run isn't over either there is to this day comics still being published only this time by IDW Publishing.

Part Two - The Forever War Story

Now that I told you who the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are let me tell you what the story is about. The story was about the "Future Turtles" returning and teaming up with the present day Turtles and they were going to have their final battle with the Shredder. Other characters were set to return as such Golani, Ninjara, Scumbag, Rat King, and Wyrm.

Part Three - Announcement Then Cancellation

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures just completed their latest story arc titled "The Moon Eye Saga" and issue #70 ended with this advertisement.

The Forever War was planned to span from issues #71-75. The comic was known for having a darker story compared to most TMNT media at the time. This would cause conflicts between writer Steve Murphy and editor-in-chief Victor Gorelick and publisher Michael Silberkleit, who thought the adult themes to the storyline were going too far. According to Murphy this was the reason the story was cancelled "Victor and Michael wanted to know where the book was going with issue 71, and when I told them we would be revisiting the future (the Greenhouse Earth future another notion that freaked them out) for a 5-issue story arc featuring the return of the Shredder - a totalitarian Shredder (no the buffoon of the cartoon) - they popped their toupees. And said they wanted me off the book". Another factor that was speculated was for many years Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures were the only Ninja Turtles comics to be printed in color. However Mirage was creating volume two for their Ninja Turtles comic series which would have also been in color, this left Archie Comics feeling threatened. After Murphy left the comic series continued with two more issues and a miniseries titled Year of the Turtle before the series was cancelled.

Part Four - Revival Attempts

The story would later try to get some revivals. In 2005 Murphy said the story arc would be released but nothing happened. When Murphy was asked about the storyline again he changed the date to 2007, well 2007 came and went but their was no Forever War released. Then in 2009 the story was set to be released, then Nickelodeon bought out the TMNT franchise then the story was cancelled just like it was back in 1995.

Part Five - Gallery

The only thing we have left of this story are these pictures. Also this blog gives you more a details of what happened and in my opinion it's a lot better than what I did. Basically they give you the long story while I just give you a short version. So anyhow enjoy looking at these pictures of what could have been. http://tmntentity.blogspot.com/2011/08/whatever-happened-to-forever-war.html
