What You Probably Didn't Know About Stephen King

Hey everybody and welcome to a very different What You Probably Didn't Know About. Usually when I do these it's for a movie but this time I'm doing a celebrity. With the new It movie coming this Friday I thought it would be a good idea to tell you about the author of It himself Stephen King. My original plan was going to be the original It miniseries but I want to do horror movie reviews on October so look out for those next month. So anyhow let me tell you things you probably didn't know about Stephen King and as usual despite the numbering these are in no specific order.

1. The 1986 sci-fi action horror comedy movie Maximum Overdrive is the only film based on one of Stephen King's books in which Stephen King himself directed.

2. The Autopsy of Jane Doe, The Blair Witch Project, Crimson Peak, Dawn of the Dead (2004), Deep Blue Sea, The Descent, Event Horizon, Final Destination, The Hitcher (2007), The Last House on The Left (2009), The Mist, The Ruins, Stir Echoes, The Strangers, and The Witch are Stephen King's fifteen favorite modern day horror movies.

3. Back in October of 1996 HBO paid Stephen King a grand total of $1.5 million for the rights of Rose Madder.

4. Stephen King suffers from triskaidekaphobia - the fear of the number 13. He once said "The number 13 never fails to trace the old icy finger up and down my spine. When I'm writing, I'll never stop work if the page number is 13 or a multiple of 13; I'll just keep on typing till I get to a safe number. I always take the last two steps on my back stairs as one, making 13 into 12. There were after all 13 steps on the English gallows up until 1900 or so. When I'm reading, I won't stop on page 94, 193, or 392, since the sums of these numbers add up to 13.

5. The Onion once wrote an article claiming Stephen King couldn't remembering writing The Tommyknockers. He would later admit that this is true. He also said he couldn't remember writing a lot of his novels in the 80's due to his alcoholism, including Cujo.

6. According to Guinness Superlatives, Stephen King's books have been adapted into films more than any other author.

7. Stephen King once tried to join the military during Vietnam but they said he was unfit to join and found him 4-F because of his high blood pressure, limited vision, flat feet, and a punctured eardrum.

8. Stephen King has made cameo appearances in films/shows adapted from his own work. He was pizza deliver man in Rose Red, a minister in Pet Sematary, a cemetery caretaker in Sleepwalkers, a man at an ATM machine in Maximum Overdrive, Teddy Weizak in The Stand, Tom Holby in The Langoliers, Dr. Bangor in Thinner, and Cage Creed in the TV version of The Shining.

9. Stephen King has said he'll never co-author a book with his wife Tabitha. He's reason is because it will certainly end in divorce.

10. He owns three radio stations in Maine. One them called Stephen King's Rock N' Roll Station on WKIT 100.3.

11. It depresses him when people say The Stand is his best book because to him he thinks it means he hasn't written anything good in decades.






12. The original title to Salem's Lot was Second Coming but then King's wife Tabitha said it sounded like a bad sex story he eventually changed it.

13. His influence for Pennywise was Ronald McDonald.

14. When Stephen King survived his near fatal car accident back in 1999 his homecare nurses told their supervisor that under no circumstances were they allowed to make jokes related to Misery.

15. King published seven novels under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. He invented the pseudonym because he wanted to see if he could market his books without his famous name. The novels that were written under the pseudonym were Rage, The Lone Walk, Roadwork, The Running Man, Thinner, The Regulators, and Blaze.

16. He once worked as a dry cleaner and an English teacher before becoming a famous writer.

17. He plays guitar for the all-writers rock band Rock Bottom Remainders. The band's motto is "We play music as well as Metallica writes novels". The other members include writers such as Amy Tan, Dave Barry, James Luca McBride, Scott Turow, and Roy Blount Jr.

18. He purchased the van that accidentally hit him back in 1999 to prevent it from going up on Ebay. He wanted the vehicle destroyed at a charity event where people can donate for a chance to smash it themselves but the van was later put in a junkyard instead.



So I hoped you learned a little some about Stephen King today. Anyhow guys I can not wait for It that movie looks like it's going to be good and I hope it is.
