My Rant on The Razzies

Image result for razzies

So two days from now on February 25th, 2017 it will be the 37th Golden Raspberry Awards aka the Razzies. I let me say this as blunt as possible I absolutely hate the Razzies. Let me explain their concept they are the opposite of the Golden Gobles or the Oscars. They give rewards to the worst films of the year. Now this year really annoys me because there on films on their list they I don't think should be on there such as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Independence Day: Resurgence and London Has Fallen. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in my opinion isn't as bad as everybody is desperately trying to make it out to be the theatrical cut is okay but the ultimate edition is actually pretty good not the greatest thing ever made but it did give us more answers to some of the questions the theatrical cut left out(Warner Bros. you better not cut somethings of out of Wonder Woman and Justice League too.). Suicide Squad is also a decent movie my main problem was the choose of villain. Independence Day: Resurgence to me is just decent nothing I think people should rush to get it on DVD or Blu-ray. Now let's talk about the films that do deserve to be on there. Gods of Egypt, Hillary's America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party, Zoolander 2(I really didn't want to say that but that movie was bad), and Fifty Shades of Black and many others. I question why aren't films like this

or this

or the reboot to a franchise nobody asked for

Image result for ghostbusters 2016 movie poster

Oh wait I forgot you can't constructively criticized Ghostbusters (2016) for it's shortcomings otherwise for some reason you're a sexist bigot. My point is there are far worst movies out there than Independence Day: Resurgence, Batman v Superman, or Suicide Squad. Also I never understood the purpose of rewarding bad movies. I mean it makes sense to put awful movies on "The Worst Movies of this year" list. To me that's already telling people how terrible it is you don't have to give it a trophy. My other problem with the Razzies and everybody else has this problem as well they pick the "mainstream" movies. I looked at their list through the years and they don't have movies such as Troll 2, Santa Claus Conquers The Martians, Highlander II: The Quickening, hell they don't even have awards for Dragon Ball: Evolution and that has to be the worst adaptation to an animated series ever! They always pick films you have heard of and know that are in theaters. Anyways that's my rant on the Razzies and comment below on why you hate the Razzies.

Things to Read/Watch Before Seeing Logan

Image result for logan movie and comic

With Logan only eleven days away well for some people it's only eleven days away other's are cooler than me and got to have early screenings(you luck sons of bitches). Anyway my point is I recommend something's you can do to get yourself hyped. Really you don't have to do these things it's just something I like to do get myself excited for a movie. Anyhow let's get to it shall we.

Image result for old man logan cover

One thing I recommend is you read the comic the movie Logan is loosely based on which would be Old Man Logan. The story can be found in Wolverine issues #66-72 and Wolverine Giant-Size Old Man Logan or you could buy Wolverine: Old Man Logan which collects all of these comics. If can't get you're hands on these comics here are some links

Wolverine #66-72
Giant-Size Old Man Logan
Wolverine: Old Man Logan
Image result for x-23 innocence lost

This movie is also to included the cinematic debut of the Marvel character X-23. If you don't know who she is let me explain. She's the clone of Wolverine. But if want more details about her you can buy the comic X-23: Innocence Lost which explores her origin. Again if can't get this comic don't worry I have a link for that

Note: Only read issues #1-6 if you want to read Innocence Lost.

Now some of are probably asking "but wait Mike I'm not the reading type don't you any videos I can watch"? Well I'm glad you asked  or didn't ask that either way anonymous reader yes I do. You can go on YouTube and type Comicstorian he has done videos on this comics in their entirety. But if you don't want to type guess what?...I have a link for that.

Old Man Logan
X-23: Innocence Lost
Image result for x-men film series

The last thing I do to get myself hyped is I watch the previous films related to a franchise. Yes I even watch the very bad X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Again you don't have to do that you could probably just watch the Wolverine movies, the X-Men films, or just watch the previous films that came out last year those being Deadpool or X-Men: Apocalypse.

Anyhow that's what I do and you can do these things too if you want. I'm really excited for Logan I hope it's as good as the trailers.

Road to Justice League - Justice League: The New Frontier Review

Image result for justice league the new frontier

Justice League: The New Frontier is a 2008 animated movie it tells the story of an entity known as The Center and it's coming to Earth to eradicate all of humanity and the Justice League and the United States government must team up to stop that from happening.

  • Negatives

One of my issues with this film is The Center isn't really explored enough. All we really get from this movie is "The Center is bad" or "The author of this book tells us The Center is a very dangerous entity". I understand the filmmakers wanted to focus more on the conflict between the superheroes and the government but I really wanted to know more about The Center other than it's evil.

Another issue I have it felt like the film wrapped up to quickly. Right after they defeat The Center it's boom the government and the superheroes are on good terms they no longer distrust another.

  • Positives

One thing I absolutely loved about this film is how they put the heroes in issues from the 40's and 50's. They have to deal with things like World War and McCarthyism. It was such a good thing they did in both the comic and the movie.

Another thing to give this film credit is it's actors. Everybody does I a great job with the characters they were given. They really feel like they were meant to voice people like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. I especially have to give a big thumbs up to Neil Patrick Harris he did an amazing job at voicing Barry Allen/The Flash.

The film also does a great job exploring the distrust between the Untied States government and the superheroes. You understand why the government doesn't really trust the heroes and that is they really can't control this guys they have powers they don't and you understand why the heroes don't trust the government they don't want to be told how to do there heroics or be told what to do with their powers.

The very last thing positive thing to say about this movie is it's animation. It may not be something on the level of Don Bluth's animation but for DVD standards it is nicely done. It has a great mixture between Bruce Timm's art style and Darwyn Cooke's art style.

Justice League: The New Frontier while it has it's problems it's still a film you must watch especially if you're a fan of DC Comics. The heroes dealing with issues from the 40's and 50's adds great weight to the movie, the voice work is spectacular, the distrust between the government and the heroes is done beautifully because it didn't feel like it was in black and white but more in a grey area and the animation is done perfectly.

My final rating for this movie is Good.

Thank You Critics You Took The Fun Out of The Lego Batman Movie

Note: Small Spoiler to The Lego Batman Movie. You Have Been Warned.

Sorry if the title sounds like clickbait it was the best I could come up with.

Let me just explain something first I originally didn't want to write this but with all the critics talking about The Lego Batman Movie as of late I just needed to get this off my chest.

So in case you haven't noticed The Lego Batman Movie has gotten a lot of love in only a couple of days. Both fans of either The Lego Movie or Batman loved it and critics have been saying some positives things about it which they should the film is indeed very enjoyable. The problem I've been having recently is the freaking critics taking cheap pot shots at either Zack Snyder(the director of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice & the upcoming Justice League film) or the DC Extended Universe in general. For some reason the critics think this is what every DC film should be for now on. Seriously they have written articles with titles like "The Lego Batman Movie Puts the DC Extended Universe to Shame" or "The Lego Batman Movie: Proof a Good Justice League Can Happen" and yes those are actually titles to real articles. Let's talk about that second article's title how is a Lego movie which is basically a parody of DC superheroes proof that the Justice League film coming out in November is the right way to make a good movie. That's like saying Mortal Kombat X is proof Street Fighter V is awesome they are two different products that's not "proof" of anything. Also if you're saying the Justice League film should have Batman doing all the work to keep the planet safe while the other members of the league throw a party they you sir have terrible writing skills. What I'm trying to say is I'm sick of almost every critic putting this movie in such a high standard yes the movie is bright, hilarious, and fun to watch but that doesn't mean the DC Extended Universe should be exactly like The Lego Batman Movie. The reason why Batman acts the way he does in this movie and not Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is because in The Lego Movie it was established a child made this world with his imagination. Now I'm not saying we should hold the DC Extended Universe on such a high horse. We should give the franchise fair & constructive criticism just like every other film that Hollywood gives us and not ignore the problems the films have. I did have issues with Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad but I wouldn't go as far to say that are the worst superhero films to exist(looking at you Batman & Robin and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace). Anyhow that's all I wanted to say and yeah go out see The Lego Batman Movie.

Side Note: Somebody on Tumblr wrote what I thought was a pretty good post on the critics of The Lego Batman Movie and how there is no "definitive" version of these characters

The Lego Batman Movie Easter Eggs & References

Note: This post contains spoilers. You have been warned.
Image result for the lego batman movie poster
Hello to anybody who is reading this so I wasn't really going to do this but I just couldn't get over some the easter eggs this film contained. So let me tell you about some of the easter eggs and references that I noticed in this film. Little disclaimer I didn't get every single one of this like a lot of other articles did I'm just writing the ones I remember so with out wasting any more time let's talk about some of the things I noticed in this movie.

Image result for detective comics #365
During Batman's opening monologue he says how DC is "the house that Batman built". This could be a reference to Detective Comics #365(1967) in which the story was titled "The House the Joker Built.

Image result for heath ledger joker
We continue even further with Joker when he hijacks a plane. When talking to one of the pilots & says this will be his best plan ever! The pilot brings up "the two boats" which is a nod to The Dark Knight(2008) where Joker wanted the citizens of Gotham who are on one boat to blow up a bunch of criminals who are on another boat and also wanted the criminals to blow up the citizens. The pilot also talks about the Joker throwing a parade while dancing to Prince music. Which is a nod to Tim Burton's 1989 Batman film. Where the Joker was going to kill people using his Joker Gas using the parade as a cover and yes while dancing to Prince music.

Image result for the mutant leader
When Batman is fighting all of the criminals the Joker assembled one of them is "The Mutant Leader". For any of you who don't know who is he is was a villain in the 1986 graphic novel "The Dark Knight Returns" by Frank Miller.

Image result for billy dee williams two face
We continue on with the villains but this time with Two-Face. But instead of being the one played by Tommy Lee Jones from the 1995 film Batman Forever. This one is a nod to how was suppose to play Two-Face Billy Dee Williams. Billy was suppose to play the character in what was suppose to by the third Time Burton Batman film but after the controversy surrounding Batman Returns(1992) he was for some reason recasted by Tommy Lee Jones.

Image result for tom hardy bane
The Bane in this movie is also a parody of Tom Hardy's Bane from the film The Dark Knight Rises(2012). You tell because he has some fluff around his chest area a nod to the jacket Tom Hardy had in the film. Also the voice they use for Bane in The Lego Batman Movie.
Image result for batman forever logo
After Batman defeats all the bad guys and stops the Joker's plan. When the citizens of Gotham are celebrating at one part of that celebration fireworks go off one of them read "Batman 4ever". Which is a reference to the 1995 film Batman Forever.

Image result for the batman 2004 series logo
Before Batman goes to Wayne Manor he stops by an orphanage to give the children some Batman merchandise. One of those is a t-shirt that says The Batman which is an easter egg to the 2004 series titled "The Batman".

Related image
When Batman gets to Wayne Manor to relax on another job well done. Just when his getting his robe we see a variety of Batsuits one of them being the Batman Beyond suit from the 90's show Batman Beyond.

Image result for iron man
The password to get into the batcave is "Iron Man sucks". Iron Man is a Marvel superhero who is also a billionaire playboy like Bruce Wayne only without the detective skills & Bruce doesn't have a history with alcohol abuse.

Image result for batman films
When Bruce is being sad about the loss of his parents his butler Alfred brings up previous Batman films. Saying "Sir I seeing you go through similar phases in 2016(Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) in 2012(The Dark Knight Rises) in 2008(The Dark Knight) in 2005(Batman Begins), and 1997(Batman & Robin) and 1995(Batman Forever) and 1992(Batman Returns) and 1989(Batman) and that weird one in 1966(Batman: The Movie)". All but two films are in Lego those films being Batman & Robin(showing us the infamous Batnipples) and 1966's Batman(showing us Batman's amazing dance moves).

Image result for batman vs egghead
Speaking of the 1960's Batman! The film also has the villain Egghead(Vincent Price) and through some portion of the film Alfred is wearing Adam West's Batsuit because he misses the 60's.

Image result for the lego batman movie carrie kelly
Now that I gone over the villains It's time I talk about Robin. While his name is Dick Grayson aka the first Robin aka Nightwing. His appearance looks more like Carrie Kelly what with the green glasses & hairstyle. If you don't know who Carrie Kelly is again read 1986's The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller. Seriously read that it's one of the best Batman stories written.

Image result for batman the animated series
During the film Bruce Wayne is invited to Jim Gordon's retirement party. When Barbara Gordon is promoted to be the Comissioner she gives us a slide show of Batman through the years. The slides contain Detective Comics #27(Batman's first appearance), Lewis Wilson's Batman serial, the TV show Superfriends, the tenth anniversary cover to The Dark Knight Returns(this will be the last time I bring it up I swear.), and the TV show Batman: The Animated Series(it's the one with the picture above). All being in the forum of Legos.

Image result for christopher reeve superman
When Batman wants to break into the Fortress of Solitude he rings the doorbell. The doorbell's tone is the theme to the 1978 film Superman starring Christopher Reeve.

Image result for super friends wonder twins
When Batman finally gets into the Fortress of Solitude Superman is hosting a party being the Justice League's 75th anniversary party. One of the people at the party is The Wonder Twins from the TV show Superfriends. Another one being Apache Chief also from the show Superfriends.

Image result for suicide squad
During the climax of the film when all the bad guys are running around causing chaos. Batman suggests a few teams such as Seal Team Six. Another being the Suicide Squad. Batman even makes fun of their premise being using super villains to fight super villains calling it "stupid".

Those are all the easter egg & references I noticed I hoped you enjoyed this. Stay tune because on Thursday I'll being getting back on the Road to Justice League with my review for Justice League: The New Frontier.

The Lego Batman Movie Review

Image result for the lego batman movie poster

The Lego Batman Movie is animated film that's a spin-off of the successful The Lego Movie and tells the story of Batman/Bruce Wayne(Will Arnett) who not only has to defend Gotham City from the most dangerous criminals but now also has to deal with being a father to a boy he adopted.

  • Negatives

Nothing bad to say so let's move on.

  • Positives

Like The Lego Movie this film has spectacular animation. It's still amazing how the filmmakers did so much with these Legos whether it was stop motion or animation. Seriously when I was a kid I couldn't even dream of doing all this stuff with Legos.

Another thing this film does well is the humor. Each and everyone of this jokes got me to laugh whether it was making a joke about Batman's past films, comics or something related to the movie itself.

Speaking of Batman's past films or comics. This movie gives you plenty of references and easter eggs related to Batman. It was really fun for me just to be like "Hey that was a reference to Jack Nicholson's Joker or Hey that's an easter egg to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Seriously it was really fun to find those things.

One thing I wasn't expecting to this movie was emotions. I was really surprised how some parts of this movie tucked on my heart strings a bit. They weren't scenes that in my opinion are going to make you cry but still get to you.

Another thing I liked about this movie was how The Joker was so desperately trying to get Batman to call him he's greatest enemy. It was just hilarious to see Joker tell Batman "Call me you're greatest enemy" or "Say you hate me please". All while doing that with big puppy dog eyes.

The Lego Batman Movie has amazing animation, a great sense of humor, well done emotional moments, and gives you plenty of Batman easter eggs to spot and enjoy.

My final rating for this movie is A Must Watch.

Road to Spider-Man: Homecoming - Spider-Man Review

Note: This Review Contains Spoilers. You Have Been Warned.

Image result for spider-man 2002 movie poster

With Spider-Man coming out with a new movie(Spider-Man: Homecoming) I thought I should do what I'm currently doing with my Road to Justice League. Which is review pervious films related to the title character or characters to get hyped for the film coming out this year. Before I get to the review let me tell you a story about how I discovered this movie. I didn't see this in the theaters like some of the kids at my school did I had to wait until it come out on DVD and then request it as either a birthday or Christmas present. I don't when I got I think it was my birthday but whenever I got this film I loved to watch it over and over again. I just couldn't believe there was a film about my third favorite superhero(my first is Superman and my second is Batman).

Spider-Man is 2002 film it tells the story about how nerdy Peter Parker(Toby Maguire) became Spider-Man when he was bitten by a radioactive spider. But while there's a hero on the rise there is also a villain known as the Green Goblin/Norman Osborn(William Dafore) who wants to make Spider-Man an offer to join his side.

  • Negatives

I know what possible bad thing can I say about this movie? I have but one complaint whenever William Dafore is playing the Green Goblin he sometimes goes over the top with his performance. Seriously the voice they decided to go with just sounds cartoonist to me.

  • Mix
One aspect to this film I'm in a grey area on is the romance between Peter Parker and Mary-Jane Watson(Kristen Dunst). Sometimes when they talk to one another it feels like a true genuine conversion between love interests other times it feels like they are reading off of a script.

  • Positives

Now that I got some of my complaints out of the way let me talk about what I like about the movie. One thing I like is the Spider-Man costume it may not look exactly like it does in the comics but for 2002 it was great. Now some people had a problem with Green Goblin's suit saying he looks like a Power Ranger but I liked it. I wasn't really expecting the filmmakers to go with a purple elf hat & purple booties.

A second thing to love about this movie is the actor's performances they do an excellent job at playing these characters. You can tell that the director(Sam Riami) really wanted them to give it their all. Even if a did have a complaint about William Dafore as Green Goblin.

A third thing to give this film credit is the effects it looks like the Green Goblin is flying on his glider and Spider-Man does look like is web-swing through the city of New York.

Another thing I liked about this movie is the final fight between Spider-Man and the Green Goblin because in that fight I really thought Spider-Man wasn't going to win because he just gets his ass kicked in this movie. It such a great feeling when Spider-Man finally gets back up and unloads on the Green Goblin which he deserved because One) He killed a bunch of business men all because they wanted to sell his company and Two) He thinks after he has beaten Spidey he threatens to kill Mary-Jane. If any of you have read a Spider-Man comic you know it's not a wise thing to threaten the people Peter loves. It's kind of a bad idea.

Spider-Man while it has flaws it's still one of many good superhero films to be made. The costumes for Spider-Man & Green Goblin both have good designs to them. The actors do a great job. The effects are very well done and seeing Green Goblin and Spider-Man fight or just simply talk to each other is awesome.

My final rating for this movie is Good.
