Solo: A Star Wars Story Review

Solo: A Star Wars Story (or just Solo) is the second installment in the Star Wars Anthology film series. The movie is a stand-alone story prior to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. The movie is produced by Lucasfilm Ltd. and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Solo: A Star Wars Story is written by Jonathan and Lawrence Kasdan and directed by Ron Howard.

The story tells the tale of a young Han Solo and his dream of becoming a pilot. One day he is given a job by Tobias Beckett for an important smuggling deal. During this adventure Han meets other people like him who were also hired by Tobias for this job.

Initial Reaction

Now like many Star Wars movies I was already hooked on this film. Granted I did have mix feelings about them telling Han's origin story since. But then I thought hey they told us a little bit about Boba Fett so why should Han be excluded.

Cons

I've got nothing to say. So let's move on.

Middle Ground

The only thing about Solo I had mix feelings on was whenever characters such as Han were in peril. Now yes I was worried when something would happen to them but at the same time you take a step back and realized I know their going to make it out of this.

Pros

Now a lot of people complained about Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo saying he doesn't sound nor look anything like a young Harrison Ford (which is hypocritical for them to say since these are the same people who like James McAvoy as Professor X even thought he doesn't sound like a young Patrick Stewart), he's performance in this film is good. Yeah he did a fine job playing Han. I also give performance credit to Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, he quite literally felt like a young Billy Dee Williams. Now when fans and critics heard about Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were fired during through three-quarters of principal photography and then Ron Howard took over for reshoots and such. But here this movie you don't notice that at all. Ron's directing was great, there wasn't anything that felt or looked like a reshoot at all. The writers handled Chewbacca and Han meeting perfectly. Nothing about their bond in this movie felt forced or rushed. Now in this film we get a surprise cameo from a fan-favorite character. I won't say who it is I'll just say their a Sith Lord.

Solo: A Star Wars Story was a very fun experience. Alden and Donald's performances were good, Ron Howard handled directing duties flawlessly, Han and Chewie meeting each other for the first time was great, and surprised cameo made my jaw drop. The only grey area was when Han and other original trilogy characters were in danger.

My final rating is Good

A Look Back at Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (or just Rogue One) is a 2016 epic space opera. It's the first film in the Star Wars Anthology film series and a prequel to Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was produced by Lucasfilm Ltd. and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The movie was written by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy and directed by Gareth Edwards.

The story is a group of rebels are on a mission to steal the Empire's plans for their ultimate weapon the Death Star. During this dangerous mission they will face many challenges to get the plans to other rebels.

  • Negatives

That tentacle monster scene. What the hell was that? I mean I understand what the scene was going for but it just felt like one huge WTF moment.

  • Mix

The only thing the film should have spent more time on is the character development of our main heroes. Throughout the movie we kind of get an idea of who they are but other times not so much.

  • Positives

One thing I liked about Rogue One was that it shows a darker side to the rebel alliance. There's a scene where one of the characters shoots someone in the back after they got information about the empire. It was a well executed scene that shows the rebels aren't as clean as the previous Star Wars films have shown.

Another thing to enjoy from Rogue One is the cinematography. We get a lot of beautiful shots in this film. Some of which I couldn't take my eyes off.

Rogue One finally gave us an answer to why the Death Star would of a hole that would blow up the empire's entire station. I won't give it away but what I will say is that it's a great middle finger/payback moment for a character's father.

Rogue One continues Star War's tradition of having amazing and breathtaking final battle. It was just a spectacular final act that it's worth sitting through the entire movie for.

My final complement to this movie is that Darth Vader scene near the end. That scene was so badass and one if not the best part of the entire film. That scene was pure Vader.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is not in anyway a flawless movie but it's still an enjoyable experience. Showing the a dark side to the rebel alliance was a good idea, I loved some of the shots the film contains, giving us an answer to why the Death Star has such an obvious weakness, a sensational final battle, and an amazing Darth Vader scene. While your not going to get enough character development you'll still root for them. The only bad thing in the film was that weird tentacle scene. Seriously what was that?

My final rating is Good

Deadpool 2 Review

Deadpool 2 is a superhero film based on the Marvel Comics' character Deadpool. The film is the eleventh entry in the X-Men film series and the sequel to Deadpool (2016). The movie is produced by Marvel Entertainment, The Donners' Company, and Genre Films and distributed by 20th Century Fox. Deadpool 2 is written by Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick and directed by David Leitch.

The story is Cable has come from the future to kill a young mutant child. Deadpool doesn't agree with this and plans to stop Cable from doing so. But the soldier from the future seems to be too much for him to handle so he forms the X-Force. Can Deadpool and his new team stop Cable or will he succeed in his mission?

Initial Reaction

As a fan of the first film I was definitely looking forward to the sequel when it was announced. But then my excitement turned to concern when the director of the first film Tim Miller dropped out. Then I heard that David Leitch was going to take over which had me more worried because I never heard of this guy but I was willing to give him a chance. Then the trailers came out and my worrying turned back into excitement.

Cons

My only complaint for this movie is with the young kid (played by Julian Dennison). He switches sides so many times. First he's bad then he's good then he's bad then he's good. It's like pick a side already!

Middle Ground

I've got nothing to say. Let's move on.

Pros

One thing I really enjoyed about the film is this time around the writers humanize Deadpool. We get to understand Wade more than he's alter ego. Now when I reviewed the first Deadpool film, I mentioned how the CGI was not what it could be but this time it has definitely improved. Now since Deadpool is known for his humor, how does it hold up? Guys this movie is just as funny as the first if not better. Mainly because Deadpool went after not only the X-Men film series (as usual), but he also took shots at the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC. Which is great because that's the character. But probably the funniest moment was the mid-credit scenes. I won't give them away I'll just say stay for those scenes. Now the team X-Force do show up but it was so out of left field that it probably left the audience I saw it with in stitches. Another thing I liked about Deadpool 2 is Josh Brolin as Cable. He was a pure unadulterated badass in this and I look forward to seeing him play this character again if they make either a Deadpool 3 or X-Force movie. David Leitch brought us spectacular action sequences to this film. Probably my favorite one was the convoy chase scene. That was an absolute blast to watch.

Deadpool 2 is without a doubt the film you should watch. Humanizing Wade was a brilliant writing choice, the CG has improved, the humor is top notch, that unexpected X-Force scene was amazing, Josh Brolin played Cable to a perfect ten, and the action was awesome. The only problem was Julian Dennison's character constantly switching between being good or bad.

My final rating is Great

A Look Back at Deadpool (2016)

Deadpool is a 2016 superhero film based on the Marvel Comics' character of the same name. The movie is the eighth installment in the X-Men film series. Deadpool was produced by Marvel Entertainment, Kingberg Genre, The Donners' Company, and TSG Entertainment and distributed by 20th Century Fox. The movie was written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and directed by Tim Miller.

The story is Wade Wilson is a former Special Forces agent who know works as a mercenary. One day Wade is diagnosed with cancer but on that day someone says they will help Wade with his situation. The experiment goes wrong and now Deadpool wants revenge on those who did him wrong.

  • Negatives

I've got nothing to say. Let's move on.

  • Mix

Deadpool was made with a budget of $58 million dollars and some of the CGI really shows just that. One scene I remember is when Ajax threw Vanessa and it's pretty obvious it wasn't actually Monrena Baccarin. But there are times when the CG is great. Mainly on Colossus.

  • Positives

Now Ryan Reynolds and company wanted to make a more comic accurate Deadpool film to make up for whatever the heck that thing was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. And they did just that. Deadpool's not taking everything seriously and this is without a shadow of doubt The Merc with The Mouth.

Another thing to love about the film is the humor. This is the most hilarious film that I saw in 2016 (right next to The Nice Guys of course) and to this day it's still funny.

The movie does take a break from the action scenes to tell you Wade's origin story, and it's done perfectly. Throughout the flashbacks you really feel for Wade and what he's going through. The point that I think really got people was he's quote about cancer.

This film was Tim Miller's debut as a director. And looking back on this movie I would have never guessed that. I mean through the whole movie you don't get that feeling that this is somebody's first time directing.

The final thing I'll praise Deadpool for is the action. This movie is (and I'm also counting credits too by the way) 108 minutes long but due how fast paced the action scenes were it didn't feel that way. Also another thing about those scenes were it's impossible to feel bored.

Deadpool deserved all of the praise it received back in 2016. The movie is more comic accurate to the title character, it's humor is very much funny, Wade's origin makes you feel sorry for him, Tim Miller did great as a director, and the action scenes are awesome. The only thing that should have been worked on more is the CGI.

My final rating is Great

Road to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom - Jurassic World Review

Jurassic World is a 2015 science fiction adventure film and the fourth film in the Jurassic Park film series. The movie is produced Amblin Entertainment and Legendary Pictures and distributed by Universal Pictures. Jurassic World was written by Colin Trevorrow, Derek Connolly, Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver and directed by Colin Trevorrow

The story is it's been 22 years after Jurassic Park failed but now there's a new park called Jurassic World. Everything seems to be going great just like what John Hammond wanted the first park to be. However after making a genetically new breed of dinosaur the park goes into chaos. Can our heroes make it out off the island alive or are they food for a new breed?

  • Negatives

The only aspect of Jurassic World I didn't like nor care for was Zach and Gray's parents are going through a divorce subplot. Mainly because it was unnecessary. If you would have cut it out of the film entirely the movie would remain the same. Especially at the end it just becomes a throw away line.

My other complaint with Jurassic World is Vic Hoskins' subplot of wanting to use the raptors and the Indominus Rex as military weapons. I just shook my head just because I thought it was stupid. I mean it could have worked but with how it was handled in the film it just didn't do it for me.

  • Mix

I've got nothing to say. Let's move on.

  • Positives

One thing the filmmakers did right was the park. It's just gorgeous. The Jurassic World park is everything John Hammond wanted Jurassic Park to be in the first movie.

Another thing to enjoy about this movie is Chris Pratt's performance. Not only is his character awesome but he ie definitely the most likeable. So likeable you want his character to make it out on top.

Now a lot of people complained about the CGI saying it looks bad and Jurassic Park's CGI was better. In all honesty I want what those people were smoking. Because the CG is a million times better than any of the CG in the previous installments. And I'm gonna stand by that statement until the day I die.

Jurassic World introduced a new dinosaur called the Indominus Rex and I loved this thing. The film made it a complete monster and used it's abilities perfectly.

I loved the action in Jurassic World. It was all out fun and doesn't come off as boring. The best ones was when the Indominus Rex escaped and the final fight at the end of the movie.

Jurassic World is definitely on my favorite entries in the Jurassic Park franchise. The park was beautiful, Chris Pratt's performance was great, the CG was absolute perfection, the Indominus Rex was a great bad guy, and I give the action scenes two thumbs up. The only bad things about the film are the Vic and the kid's subplots.

My final rating is Good

So that's going to do it for the Road to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. I can't wait for June 22nd when Jurassic World 2 comes out I'm really excited for that. Until then enjoy my other upcoming post.

Looking at The Laughably Bad Jurassic Park Trilogy Blu-Rays

Hello everybody so this is a little bit different since I don't write about Blu-Ray covers but I wanted to do this since it popped into my head since I finished watching Jurassic Park III. Not this is not original plenty of people have talked about them. In matter of fact some points I'm about to talk about are most likely the same things other internet smartasses have said. But let's have some fun here and look at this hilariously awful Blu-Ray covers to the best dinosaur film series ever.

Alright so the first victim is well the first movie. First off that's not the Jurassic Park logo that's the Jurassic World's logo. Now I don't understand why they did this it makes no sense. My only guess maybe since the Jurassic World logo is basically an updated version of Jurassic Park's maybe it would work but it doesn't. In matter of fact it's kind of lazy actually. Then we have the T-Rex oh boy the T-Rex. What did they do to the poor mascot of the franchise? I mean look at it's head it doesn't even look likes it's positioned correctly. And there's something about the eyes that are bugging me I don't know what it is but something about those eyes look weird. Then we have Alan Grant. He is way too small compared to the jeep or is the jeep too big either way there's definitely something wrong with the size of Alan and the jeep. Also this scene isn't played out right, here's the actually scene that the cover is suppose to be copying

Image result for jurassic park alan grant t rex

Oh it just came to me. That's not a flair that Alan is holding someone just put a lens flair and said "Yeah that atta do it". Then just to make this cover even worse than it already was Alan's not looking at the damn T-Rex. His head is off to the left but the T-Rex is on his right side. How did they screw that one up!? Alright that's enough of that, let's move on.

Now the first thing I noticed is this time around they decide to make the logo completely grey. Which I don't understand. Why not just keep it like they did with the previous cover? Also this picture on the Blu-Ray never happens. I rewatched the film just to make sure and yeah throughout the whole movie this scene never happens. So the cover is lying to everybody. And yet again this photoshop! What is going on with the Stegosaurus'? First off they are way too big even for Jurassic Park standards and their heads are way too small. The heads look like the size of legos compared to their entire bodies.

Image result for jurassic park III blu ray

Okay how did this happen? How is it that the third movie has the least bad looking Blu-Ray cover? So yeah like I said this one isn't too bad compared to the others but there is still some problems. One the Pteranodon doesn't really look like it's going after Billy, it looks like it's going in a another direction. And the coloring for the logo is awful. Who decide it was a good idea to use a yellowish brownish color grading for the logo? That just looks ugly.

So anyhow guys that's going to do it for me. Come back next time for the final chapter of the Road to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom with my review of Jurassic World.

Raiders of The Lost Media - 1,000 Ways to Lie

Related image

Welcome everybody to another edition of Raiders of The Lost Media. And this time I am doing another TV show and this time it's one even I knew existed because well I saw commercials for it. So enough of this opening statement let's get to it.

Part One - What was 1,000 Ways to Lie?

1,000 Ways to Lie was a television special and satire of the popular show 1,000 Ways to Die. The special aired on March 3, 2010 with the episode titled Natural Born Liars on Spike (now renamed Paramount Network). The special was met with mostly negative reviews.

Part Two - Content

The format of the show is slightly different from 1,000 Ways to Die. It included a sped up narration similar to 1,000 Ways to Die but replacing the death concept with lying. The pilot contained six segments that reenacted the most outlandish lies every told along with experts who would explain the science behind the lie and how the person was found out. At the end of each segment a picture of the incident is shown with the text reading Way to Lie # very close to 1,000 Ways to Die's Way to Die #. The special was eventually put of Spike's website with the description reading

" A drug smuggler uses her womanly assets to hide the goods; a celebrity seeker pulls a bunny out of her rabbit hole; an ex-con cleans up the streets; a henpecked hubby winds up wishing he was dead; a horny horn player plays his heart out and a con man discovers he's cut out for the job".

Due to updates on Spike's website, the special can no longer be viewed.

Part Three - The Intro

The only piece of 1,000 Ways to Lie to surface on the internet is it's intro https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftofsKKMviw#action=share.

So that's going to do it for this edition of Raiders of The Lost Media. I'll have another one of these and this time I go back to lost comic books and it's all about the popular video game Overwatch. It will go up on June 21st.
