Abominable Review

Abominable is computer-animated adventure film. The movie is produced by DreamWorks Animation and Pearl Studio and distributed by Universal Pictures. Abominable is written and directed by Jill Culton.

The story is a teenage girl named Yi seems to be having an average day for a girl her age. Until one night she discovers an Yeti on your apartment roof. She and her friends Jin and Peng all decide to bring Everest (the name they gave the Yeti) back home to his family. However evil forces are trying to capture the Yeti.

Initial Reaction

Now if I'm being honest I really didn't have any intention of seeing this movie. Don't get me wrong the trailers and tv spots did showcase the film has a beautiful experience. The problem was I would always forget this movie was coming out. But since my theater wasn't going to show Rambo: Last Blood I told my audience (what a small time reviewer like me has anyway) that I make up for that no show review by reviewing this movie.

Cons

I've got nothing to say. Let's move on.

Middle Ground

The real grey area with the is it's story. We've seen a lot of familiar stuff revolved around this kid finds a strange creature plot. Yet I think what helps the movie stand of it's own feet is it's execution. That'll hopefully help it not be compared to other movies that used this same type of story.

Pros

One thing I liked about the movie was the humor. This is a very funny film and there were a couple of times when I let out a big laugh (thankfully at the time of my showing I was the only one there and I didn't bother anyone). What also makes the movie an enjoyable experience are the character arcs. Throughout the movie our main characters going through some sort of arc that helps develops them from where they were at the beginning of the movie. Now when you make a movie revolving around a strange creature it's very important to make it charming and the writers definitely made Everest a charming character. From beginning to end you'll just fall in love with him, it was impossible for my to hate this character. Since this is an animated movie it's time to talk about the animation and wow...it was really good. There were so many moments were the animation is eye catching and you never want to look away. It's especially beautiful whenever Everest is using his powers.

Abominable wasn't my most anticipated movie for the month of September (that title went to Rambo: Last Blood) but I'm actually glad I went to see this movie. It has a lot of funny moments, great character arcs, Everest was cute, and the animation is great. The only mix bag was the story. While it's definitely something we've seen I think the execution will help it in the end run.

My final rating is Great

Alright everyone, that's all for me. Come back on Monday, September 30th even I bring you an update about my plans for October. Until then enjoy the rest of your day and give Abominable a watch.

Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans Review

Image result for teen titans go vs teen titans

Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans is a direct-to-video animated comic book film based on the animated cartoon series Teen Titans Go!. The movie is produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment and distributed by Warner Home Video. Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans is written by Marly Halpern-Graser and Jeremy Adams and directed by Jeremy Mednikow.

The story is the Go! versions of the Titans have been summoned to do battle with the 2003 versions of themselves. But then both Ravens has been abducted by both the Titans' version of Trigon in an effort to cause chaos to the multiverse. Now both teams of Titans must put aside their differences in order to save their Ravens and the multiverse itself.

Initial Reaction

I was quite interested in this movie because I grew up with the 2003 version of the Teen Titans and in all honesty I don't think Teen Titans Go! is as bad as people are making it out to be. No, I don't think it's the greatest show ever but it's certainly not the worst. So being a fan of the 2003 version having a crossover film with the Go! version did make want to watch this movie.

Cons

I've got nothing to say. Let's move on.

Middle Ground

Now there are two areas of the movie that are a mix bag. One of those being the animation. Now it is fine, it's definitely not as cinematic as it was in Teen Titans Go! To the Movies but it's fine for what it's worth. However it does look odd on the 2003 version of the Titans. Like there are times where they look good but other times they look like cardboard. The other grey area is the 2003 Titans' characterization. In the movie they're treated like the super serious ones even going as far as to need to learn from the Go! versions of Titans to relax. I find this odd because how many times have we've seen the 2003 version of the Titans eating pizza and playing video games? But other than that the 2003 versions of treated with respect. There wasn't anytime where I thought it was clear the writers were trying to make the Go! Titans the superior ones.

Pros

One thing I enjoyed about the movie was it's sense of humor. There are a lot of moments that'll get a laugh out of you. From the two Titans teams taking shots at each other, to them going to other universes or fighting a holiday icon, the movie is quite an hilarious ride. The other part of the movie to enjoy is all of the easter eggs. This movie just isn't these two teams the filmmakers explored all different versions of the Teen Titans whether they existed in the comics or were made up for the movie. Now let's talk about the voice acting, I felt like the cast did a great job voice the two different times. Especially since they do make an effort for both versions to sound different from each other. The final thing I'll give the movie credit for is the action. I'll admit it's not anything that's going to set the animation world on fire but for what it's worth it does provide some entertainment value.

Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans isn't a movie that's going to be on the "best films of 2019 list" and that's fine because it did it's job of being a entertaining movie about the two teams. What with it's funny moments, all of the easter eggs, good voice work from the cast, and some fun action scenes. The only mix bag was the animation and some slight mis-characterization of the 2003 Teen Titans.

My final rating is Good

Alright everyone I'm all done with this review. Come back on Saturday, September 28th for my review of DreamWorks Animation's newest feature film Abominable. Until then enjoy the rest of your day.

Road to Terminator: Dark Fate - Terminator: Genisys Review

Terminator: Genisys - Poster Gallery

Terminator: Genisys is a 2015 science fiction action film as well as the fifth movie in the Terminator film series. The movie is produced by Skydance Productions and distributed by Paramount Pictures. Terminator: Genisys was written by Patrick Lussier and Laeta Kalogridis and directed by Alan Taylor.

The story is Kyle Reese is set back to 1984 to protect John Connor's mother Sarah Connor from the killing machine known as the Terminator. However when he gets there Sarah is already a skilled fighter and has a Terminator for a guardian. Now Kyle, Sarah, and the Terminator must figure why the timeline is as messed up as it is.

  • Negatives

My only real issue with the movie is Jai Courtney. Oh no it has nothing to do with his performance it's just he was miscast. I mean when I think Kyle Reese I think of someone who is averaged height and built not a guy who is bulked up and really tall.

  • Mix

One of the two grey areas with the movie is the timeline. For some parts it's fine, everything's good nothing to really make you question things but then you get those instances of "wait a minute that doesn't seem right".

The other mix bag for the film is the acting. A large majority of the acting in the movie serviceable. There wasn't an a scene where I thought anyone was giving a bad performance just an alright one. Expect for Arnold Schwarzenegger he definitely had the best performance out of anybody.

  • Positives

One good thing about the movie is the action. It was fun and enjoyable to watch and kept me interested to watch the movie from start to finish.

The other aspect of the movie I enjoyed was the new Terminator, the T-3000. It was a really cool and new take of the Terminators. I also thought it was cool it doesn't think of it's self as neither man or machine but like a whole new breed of cyborgs. I also thought it a really creepy looking default design.

Terminator: Genisys is an alright movie. It has fun action scenes and the new Terminator was awesome. The areas were it could have used more work is the timeline and the acting while okay (expect Schwarzenegger's acting he was great) it definitely left a lot more to be desired. The only real bad thing was Jai Courtney's miscasting.

My final rating is Okay

So yeah I just think Terminator: Genisys is okay. Is it one of the Terminator films I'll re-watch yes, is it one I'll watch over and over again no. Overall it's fine. So anyhow that's all for me, come back on Thursday, September 26th for my review of the newest animated DC film, Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans. Until then enjoy the rest of your day.

Sorry. But There's No Rambo: Last Blood Review

Well I sadly said something like this would happen in my review for Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens and here we are. So yes sadly my theater won't have a showing for Rambo: Last Blood and looks like I have an apology post to make. So yeah sorry about this guys I was really hoping this wouldn't happen but unfortunately it has. But like I said in my Force Awakens review I'll make it up to you by reviewing DreamWorks Animation's Abominable. Yes I'm fully aware those are two VASTLY different films but I just want to review something that's recently came out for you.

So that's all I gotta say I hope you come back on Monday, September 23rd for my review of Terminator: Genisys. That will be the final chapter for my Road to Terminator: Dark Fate. Until then enjoy the rest of your day.

Road to Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker - Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens Review

Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (or simply called Star Wars: The Force Awakens) is a 2015 epic space opera and the first installment of the sequel trilogy as well as the seventh film in the Star Wars franchise. The movie is produced by Lucasfilm Ltd. and Bad Robot Productions and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens was written by J.J. Abrams, Lawrence Kasdan, and Michael Arndt and directed by J.J. Abrams.

The story is it's been thirty years since the Galactic Civil War. However in though the Empire was destroyed a new force of evil has risen called The First Order. The Resistance only hope is Luke Skywalker but nobody knows where he is. Only the droid BB-8 has the last piece of the map to Luke's location. Now a girl named Rey must bring BB-8 back to The Resistance before The First Order gets their hands of him.

  • Negatives

The one and only thing I didn't like about the movie was Starkiller Base. I mean it's just another Death Star and we already got those twice and both times those failed. So you would think The First Order would have learned from The Empire's mistake and NOT make another Death Star.

  • Mix

I've got nothing to say. So let's move on.

  • Positives

One thing you'll enjoy is the action. Those action sequences were insane and I enjoyed every single one of them. But you guys know me and how I like to pick which were my favorites. So if I had to choice it would definitely be the final act of the movie.

Now yes Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens does give you moments of nostalgia. However there not in your face about it. All of the nostalgic bits in the movie are played very subtly.

The other aspect to love about The Force Awakens is of course John Williams' score. The guy just continues his streak of providing us Star Wars fans with memorable and fantastic music that you'll want to listen over and over and over again.

Another thing that makes the movie so good is the special effects. They were done to perfection. From both practical effects to GCI everything was looked great. There was not one time when I thought "oh that looks terrible" or "that could have used more work".

The other part of the movie that was great was the acting. Everyone providing great performances. The best ones came from newcomers Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver. They great both together and separately.

The final thing I'll give the movie praise is J.J. Abrams' directing. He shot a beautiful movie and everyone of his shots were breathtaking. I'm so glad he'll be coming back for The Rise of Skywalker.

Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens is a great installment to the Star Wars franchise. It has great action scenes, subtle nostalgia moments, a great score from John Williams, spectacular special effects, great acting, and J.J. Abrams' directing was awesome. The only downside is Starkiller Base.

My final rating is Great

So that's going to do it for me. Come back on Saturday, September 21st for my review of Rambo: Last Blood. Well what I'm hoping will be my review of Rambo: Last Blood it's hard to tell with my theater sometimes, but you know me if I can't give you a review of Rambo: Last Blood I'll write an apology post or I could review DreamWorks Animation's Abominable to make up for it. I don't know let's just see where events take us. Until then enjoy the rest of your day.

Raiders of The Lost Media - The Superman

Hello everyone and welcome back to yet another edition of Raiders of The Lost Media. This time around I look at a lost comic book by the creators of Superman themselves Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

Part One - What was The Superman?

The Superman is a lost 1933 short story comic book. The story would have been the first true appearance of the iconic DC Comics' character and pop culture icon Superman.

Part Two - Whatever Happened to The Superman?

After Siegel and Shuster's story titled The Reign of the Superman (in which Superman was portrayed as a villain) both men played around with the idea of their Superman creation being more a hero instead of a bad guy. The duo worked hard on this idea and even got a promising letter from Consolidated Book Publishing, however luck wasn't on Siegel and Shuster's side as the publishing company would later contact them saying they were pulling out of their idea. After numerous of other attempts from other publishing companies all of which denied their idea Siegel would become frustrated with all the denies from these companies. One night in a fit of rage Siegel threw the entire issue into a fire.

Part Three - What We Know

The only thing that ever survived from the comic was the cover. Nobody knows what the plot was about or what the character was even going to look like. What we do know is what came from Siegel and Shuster themselves in which this version of Superman was a non-alien crime fighter and wearing a bat-like cape. What we also know is Superman collectors and historians claimed that their contacted sources have copies of this comic but this seems unlikely given that Jerry Siegel quite literally destroyed the thing in his fit of anger.

So that's all for me. I know this shorter than most of my post but that's all I could gather from this addition of Raiders of The Lost Media either way I hoped you enjoyed it. Come back on September 12th, Thursday when I go back to the Road to Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker with my review of the first film in the sequel trilogy, Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens. Until then enjoy the rest of your day.

It: Chapter Two Review

It: Chapter Two is a supernatural horror film and the sequel to 2017's It, both of which are based on Stephen King's 1986 novel It. The movie is produced by New Line Cinema, Double Dream, Vertigo Entertainment, and Rideback and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It: Chapter Two is written by Gary Dauberman and directed by Andy Muschietti.

The story is it's been twenty-seven years after the events of the first movie. All of the members of the Losers' Club have since left Derry and are now living peaceful lives. However Pennywise returns and starts a new reign of terror. Now the Losers' Club must reunite and finally put an end to Pennywise once and for all.

Initial Reaction

Now having enjoyed the first movie it was without question I would be excited for the sequel. I would always be so excited whenever a trailer would pop up online or when a commercial would show up on TV. Of course I still had my doubts because often times horror sequels like many sequels don't turn out the way they should. But I wasn't going to let that feeling linger for too long when watching the movie.

Cons

I've got nothing to say. So let's move on.

Middle Ground

Now my opinions on the CGI is there are times when it has improved from the previous film but there are times when it's still looks a little bit off in some areas. And I'm not talking about how some of the kid actors had to be de-aged because the CG they used to de-aged the child actors was done really well. Like I didn't even noticed. The other slight issue with It: Chapter Two is it's runtime. Now I don't mind watching a three-hour or near three-hour long movie. For crying out loud last week I watched Avengers: Endgame and I've watched the Ultimate Edition of Batman v Superman; Dawn of Justice more than once. So yeah a three-hour or close to that runtime doesn't really bother me but there are times with this movie where some scenes drag on. Like a couple of scenes could have been trimmed down just slightly.

Pros

Let's just get this out of the way right now. Yes the cast is one of the best things about this movie. Everyone from James McAvoy to Jessica Chastain to everyone else does a great job. Although I do feel as though the real show stealers were Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise, Bill Hader as Richie, and James Ransone as Eddie. Skarsgard once again gives us a great performance as Pennywise and once again think he's superior to Tim Curry's Pennywise. Bill Hader is rightfully getting all of the praise he deserves. Every scene he was in he nails. And James Ransone I feel is being underrated. He does a fantastic job giving us this characters humor, his fears, and also brings a lot of heart to the movie. Another thing I liked about It: Chapter Two were some of the scary moments. I won't give them away cause I don't do spoiler reviews but one of my favorites was this really intense scene involving a mirror house at a carnival. That scene gave me and the audience I saw with chills. The other thing that getting praise is how the film is faithful to the book. Now I'm going to be honest I haven't read the book BUT I did do some research on certain elements and scenes and yeah the movie did adapt some of that. So if your a fan of the book I think you'll get a kick out of how the filmmakers were faithful to certain extent with the novel.

It: Chapter Two may not be the great sequel we were all hoping it would be but it's by no means the worst. It's definitely one of the better horror sequels out there. What with it's amazing performances from the cast more specifically Bill Skarsgard, Bill Hader, and James Ransone. There are plenty of scary moments that I think will leave some horror fans happy, and the movie be faithful to the book. The real grey ares that bring the film done just a bit are some of the CGI and some scenes that drag on. Other than that I still feel as though you should give the film a chance and just watch it.

My final rating is Good

So that's going to do it for me. Come back on September 9th, Monday for a newest edition of Raiders of The Lost Media. And this time I'll be looking at a long lost DC comics. Until then enjoy the rest of your day.

A Look Back at Titans - Season 1

Image result for dc titans

With Titans having their season two premiere tomorrow I decide to take a look back at the first season.

Titans is web series created by Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, and Greg Berlanti for the app DC Universe. The series is produced by Weed Road Pictures, Berlanti Productions, DC Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Televison and distributed by Warner Bros. Television Distribution. This season consist of eleven episodes.

The story is a young girl named Rachel Roth is possessed by a dark power. One day someone from a cult kills her mother and she is now on the run, then she runs into Detective Dick Grayson (aka Robin). Throughout this mystery Dick discovers something that'll bring Hell to Earth. Now Dick must form a team with Raven, Beast Boy, and Starfire to stop this up and coming threat.

  • Negatives

I've got nothing to say. Let's move on.

  • Mix

One thing that's in a grey area with this show is the special effects. Now the more practical ones are pretty good however when it comes to the more CGI ones they range from good to pretty obvious.

The other mix bag is the season finale. While entertaining there wasn't anything about it that says "season finale". Especially since it's basically a cliffhanger for the next season.

  • Positives

One thing I like about the show is the dark tone. It's especially enjoyable because the last two Teen Titans shows (2003's Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go!) were lighter in tone so seeing a Titans show go a different route is very welcoming.

Now even though I talked about how much I love the darker tone I will admit there are bits of humor. What makes the jokes work is there's very few of them. There far between and subtle.

The other thing I've come to like about the show is the Titans themselves. Dick Grayson (Robin) has an interesting backstory relating to his fallout with Batman, Starfire's past is kept in mystery and she is a total badass, Rachel Roth (Raven) you just can't help but feel sorry for what with her powers and this cult that's after her. Then we have Garfield Logan (Beast Boy) who is the lightest character of the bunch. With that characterization he was the one that really brings some of the more humorous moments of the show which is definitely going to make him a fan favorite.

Another thing that was entertaining about this season is the performances. All of the actors do a fantastic job playing their respected characters and there wasn't one performance that I felt like was bad.

The final aspect I'll praise about the show is the action. Not only are they fun to watch they are pretty brutal. Seriously those scenes hold nothing back, if someone's getting a bloody nose someone's getting a bloody nose and then some.

Titans (Season 1) is definitely a pretty good show. The dark tone is a big but welcomed surprise, the humor is good, you really feel for the characters, the performances are all done to great effects, and the action is entertaining and intense. The only grey areas are some of the special effects and the season finale.

My final rating is Good

So yeah season one of this show was good and I'm definitely looking forward to season two. Anyways that's all for me, come back on Saturday, September 7th for my review of It: Chapter Two. Until then enjoy the rest of your day.
