Thank You For The 1,700 Views and Plans for August & September

So yesterday I checked the stats for my pageviews all time history and all of you made me so happy. Cause thanks to you I reached 1,700 views and just when I thought it couldn't get any better you then made July's views 455 thus beating May's record of 423 views. So I'm going to do two things right now. First off thank you for coming to my blog and checking things out around here your all incredible and second I think you guys deserve an award for this. Your reward will be me telling you my plans for August and September. Here we go.

Plans for August

Now before I tell your what they are let me just say that some of these plans for both months could change. Don't worry if they do I'll keep you informed. Any how here they are.

On August 3rd I'll have a review for The Nice Guys for my segment Underrated Films

On August 5th I might have a review for either The Dark Tower or Detroit. I don't know which one. It really just depends on what the theater I go to decides.

On August 7th there will be A Look Back at review for The Nut Job what with a sequel coming out this year.

On August 10th a special Not Safe For Work edition of Raiders of the Lost Media involving the Mythbusters.

On August 12th a review for The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature.

On August 14th a Cinematic Disaster review of the film Supergirl

On August 17th a review for the DC's newest animated movie Batman and Harley Quinn

On August 21st I go back on the Road to Justice League with a review for Justice League: Gods and Monsters

Now that's not the complete schedule it's just what I have planned out so far. I don't know what I'm going to do the rest of the month but I'm very happy with what I have so far.

Plans for September

Now I don't have much planned for September as much as I do for August but I have a nice idea of what I have in mind.

On September 4th I'll have a Cinematic Disaster review for the 1990 film Captain America.

There will also be a review for Justice League vs. Teen Titans I just don't know what the date will be.

So there you have it my plans for both August and September. Once again some of this could change but don't worry I promise I will tell you if they do. Also thank you so much for the views if you guys didn't keep checking in I would have quit doing this a long time ago.

The Emoji Movie Review

Image result for the emoji movie poster july

The Emoji Movie is a 3D computer-animated comedy film based on the ideograms known as emojis. It's produced by Sony Pictures Animation and the film's distributor is Columbia Pictures. The movie is written by Eric Siegel, Tony Leondis, and Mike White and directed by Tony Leondis.

The story is Gene is a multi-expressional emoji and he sets out on a quest to become a normal meh emoji like his parents. Along the way he befriends Hi-5 and Jailbreak and they help him on his adventure. But then a great danger threatens the phone they live in so now these three unlikely friends must save their world before it's deleted forever.

  • Negatives

There are no funny moments in this animated "comedy" film. None of the jokes are witty or clever. It also feels like the writers main goal was to make jokes about the poop emoji. I'm not kidding there's like six maybe seven jokes related to him.

A large majority of animated movies such as Toy Story, The Iron Giant, or ParaNorman can make you feel something for their sad, intense, or heartfelt moments. Throughout this movie I felt nothing. I didn't tense up for the action scenes, I didn't feel sad nor did the heartfelt moments tuck on my heart strings. When you feel nothing for a movie that's a bad sign.

Every talented actor/actress in The Emoji Movie was wasted. Sir Patrick Stewart as the poop emoji he shouldn't have been here, Anna Faris as Jailbreak should have done something else, and Sofia Vergara as a flamenco dancer emoji she didn't need to be in this movie especially since her screentime was probably 30 seconds at best.

Now I don't really care for product placement in movies mainly cause I understand why it's there but the writers thought it was a good idea to have the product placement be plot points. YouTube, Spotify, Dropbox, and Instagram are actually here to help move the plot forward. And in one scene Hi-5 and Jailbreak take a ride on the Twitter bird. Also two game apps are here just to pad things out and the games are Candy Crush and Just Dance.

There's a subplot involving Gene's parents where there questioning their relationship and it's pointless. It's brought up then it's quickly resolved just as fast as it was brought up.

The Emoji Movie actually has the nerve to have a mid-credit scene. Apparently they think their going to be just as successful as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Fox Marvel, and the DC Extended Universe. Yeah that's not gonna happen.

  • Mix

While the film does have good animation it's just a shame that the animators really could have done something great with their talents.

  • Positives

There's nothing to say here. Let's move on.

The Emoji Movie is going to go down in history as one of the most pointless films to ever be made. The jokes aren't unfunny and cringey, you won't feel anything throughout the film, all the actors should have never bothered to be here, it's ridiculous how much product placement was put in the movie, the subplot with the meh parents had no point, and the mid-credit scene is just the movie's inflated ego thinking it's worthy of being a franchise. Even though it has good animation it's not enough to make anybody like it.

My final rating for this movie is Awful

Underrated Films - Batman: Mask of the Phantasm Review

Image result for batman mask of the phantasm poster

Before I get into the review let me explain a few things. Welcome to my new segment Underrated Films. This is where I look at good movies that didn't get enough love from either the audience or critics or the movie flew under their radar. I'll explain why it's underrated, why the movie is worth watching, and a list of the film's accomplishments and since Batman: Mask of the Phantasm came out on Blu-Ray it will be the first movie for this new segment.

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is a 1993 animated neo-noir superhero mystery film produced by Warner Bros. Animation. The film's distributor is Warner Bros. Family Entertainment. The movie was written by Alan Burnett, Paul Dini, Martin Pasko, and Michael Reaves and directed by Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski.

The story is there's a series of murders to Gotham City's most dangerous crime bosses caused by someone known as The Phantasm. All of The Phantasm's kills have been pinned on Batman. Now it's up to him to find out who the mysterious killer is and clear he's name.

Why It's Underrated

What makes this movie underrated is it was a box office bomb despite having widespread critical acclaim with some critics saying it's on par or better than the Tim Burton Batman movies. What made it a box office bomb was Warner Bros' decision to give the film a theatrical release on such a short notice. It also didn't help that Warner Bros. had an unsuccessful marketing campaign.

Why It's Worth Watching

The voice performances are amazing. The best were Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Mark Hamill as The Joker, and Dana Delany as Andrea Beaumont and Stacy Keach as The Phantasm . All four of their performances were great and they played the characters very well. Although to be honest I wasn't that surprised with Kevin and Mark doing an awesome job since they basically are Batman and Joker. Also while The Phantasm doesn't have many lines Stacy still did an amazing job as the character. I always get chills when he said your angel of death awaits you.

Now while I do like a large majority of the live-action Batman movies they do lack something very special to Batman and that's him being a detective. This movie on the other hand gives us the best interpretation of him as a detective. Not only is he trying to figure out who The Phantasm is. He's also trying to find out why these specific crime bosses are being targeted.

The movie has two very memorable action scenes and they were the police chase and the fight between Batman and The Joker in an abandoned amusement park. The police chase was kind of intense. Batman's getting shot at, then they bring in tear gas, and then the GCPD accidentally blow up the building that Batman's in. It was a done perfectly. That fight with Batman and The Joker was definitely the best action scene. I loved how they looked like giants when they were fighting on a miniature city that was pretty cool.

Shirley Walker's score for this movie is beautiful. It really has a cinematic vibe to it. One of my favorites is the main theme song. To me it really set the tone and feel for the movie.

The biggest praise the Mask of the Phantasm earned was it's incredible animation. For a film that was released to theaters on a short notice the animators did an amazing job. When ever someone gets hit or cut it's almost like you felt the impact too. Even that CGI buildings of Gotham City look good and blend in well with the movie.

Accomplishments

Now I already brought up how it was loved by critics so let's talk about the film's other accolades. Now awhile Mask of the Phantasm didn't turn a profit at the box office it did do well on various home video releases. After the film was released on home video it would later developed a cult following which I am proudly apart of. Because of this success the movie would later get two stand-alome sequels Batman & Mr. Freeze: Subzero in 1998 and Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman in 2003 both released direct-to-video and this would be the only animated Batman movie to be released in theaters until 2016 when Batman: The Killing Joke came out. The film was also nominated for an Annie Award in the category for Best Animated Feature alongside The Lion King and The Nightmare Before Christmas but lost to The Lion King.

So that was first post for this segment. I am definitely doing another one of these and the next movie will be The Nice Guys.

Cinematic Disasters - Foodfight

Image result for foodfight movie poster

With The Emoji Movie coming out this Friday I thought it would be a good idea to review another movie that made me question humanity. That film being Foodfight.

Foodfight is a 2012 computer animated adventure comedy. It's produced by C47 Productions, Lionsgate Family Entertainment, Natural Image, StorkArk Media, and Threshold Entertainment and it's distributor is Vivia Pictures. The movie was written by Sean Catherine Derek, Lawrence Kasanoff, Brent Friedman, and Rebecca Swanson and directed by Lawrence Kasanoff.

The story is a brand mascots aka ikes come to life in a supermarket after closing time. Then a product known as Brand X arrives at their store. The ikes soon discover that Brand X is poisonous to both them and customers. Now all of the ikes must band together to defend their store against the evil product.

Once again I'm not using the bullet points that give you the negatives, mix, or positives about the movie. Because the whole film is just one big negative. So now with that out of the way let's get right into the review.

My Thoughts

One of the absolute worst things about this movie is the animation. This is probably the worst 3D animated movie I have ever seen. According to some reports Lawrence Kasanoff wanted the animation to be a mash-up between motion capture while at the same time have stretch and squash animation. This was a terrible idea because motion capture is more realistic where stretch and squash is more cartoony. So by combing these two very different styles you get animation that's stiff, ugly, and something you would see in your nightmares.

Another thing I hate about this movie is the names to our characters. That may sound like a nitpick but let me give you a list of these names. Dax Dogtective, Sunshine Goodness, Daredevil Dan, Lady X, General X, and Mr. Clipboard. Who was in charge when naming these characters. Did the filmmakers go to the nearest preschool and said hey Timmy here are some characters for our movie give them names.

The movie's main lesson is "The secrets inside all of us". I have no idea what that means. Dax said it twice. The first was when he was being interviewed and he said "The secrets inside" then at the end of the movie he said the line above and not once are we told what that means.

There's a very creepy scene where Lady X is in a sexy schoolgirl uniform and she seduces Dax. Yes a woman is seducing a dog. The whole movie is riddled with blatant and obvious sexual innuendos. There's also a scene where Daredevil Dan gets hit on by Vlad Chocool a very gay vampire mascot for a brand of cereal. If this was a good movie all of these innuendos would have been snuck in here and done in a clever way but this is Foodfight where nothing is done right.

None absolutely none of the humor in Foodfight works. Each and every joke never lands it mark or your just scratching your head wondering what was I suppose to laugh at that? It doesn't help that film relys heavily on slapstick, bad puns, and every predictable lowbrow joke you can think of!

The movie has probably the cheeses opening theme song I've have ever heard. The song is called It's Our World. It's one of those songs that try way too hard to be whimsical.

The world that Foodfight has built is just a mess. It's starts out simple enough the lights in the supermarket go out then the ikes' world appears. But then there's a scene where Mr. Clipboard throws a bag of chips on the ground and stomps on it then a different bag of chips see that and swears vengeance. So is that how the ikes' see what's going on in our world? Then it gets more confusing because then Dax and Dan go to find out what Brand X's evil plan is and their in the real world without the supermarket's lights being out. So what was the point of the light idea if later on the film showed us it's pointless.

There are many other problems with this film but I just wanted to tell you the big ones. So let's move on to my rating.

Foodfight has a corny opening song, hideous animation, awful jokes, terrible names for our characters, sexual innuendos that are way too inappropriate for kids, a confusing moral lesson, and continuity errors to how the ikes' world works.

My final rating for this movie is Destroy It!

So this was an awful experience but there is some good news. On Thursday I'll have a new segment on The Michael Project called Underrated Films. It's were I look at good movies that deserve way more love than what they got and since tomorrow Batman: Mask of the Phantasm will finally get a Blu-ray release it will be the first movie I review.

Valerian and The City of a Thousand Planets Review

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets Movie Poster

Valerian and The City of a Thousand Planets is a science fiction action film based on the French comic book series Valerian and Laureline. It's produced by EuropaCorp, Fundamental Films, BNP Paribas Fortis Film Finance, Universum Film, Gulf Film, and River Road Entertainment and Belga Films. The film's distributors are EuropaCorp & STX Entertainment. The movie is written and directed by Luc Besson.

The story is it's the 28th century, special operatives Valerian and Laureline are assigned on a mission to Alpha. An ever-expanding metropolis where different species share knowledge and culture. Then a dark force threatens the city. So it's up to Valerian and Laureline to identify it and save not only the city but the future of the universe.

  • Negatives

I felt like there was no chemistry between Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne. Their playing both partners and a couple but with their performances you get more of a partner vibe then a couple/partners.

The film does have attempts at humor but a large majority of it doesn't work. There were times when a joke was made but I didn't notice or it was just bad.

Some bits of dialogue either come off as corny or clichéd. I remember one line was I'm soldier I follow the rules. And that's why you don't know what love is. Yeah that wasn't very good.

  • Mix

I've got nothing to say so let's move on.

  • Positives

I really enjoyed that opening montage where we see how Alpha grew into the metropolis it came to be. Even the song they played add something special to it.

I loved the action in this movie. Especially when it was from Valerian. All those scenes really got me excited for the next.

Cara Delevingne did a pretty good job playing Laureline. Every time she was on screen she great to watch.

When I heard Rihanna was going to be in the movie I thought it was just going to be a pointless celebrity cameo. Thankfully that wasn't the case. She actually had a reason to be in the story and she was very entertaining.

The biggest prasie the film deserves is it has a fantastic city design & unique alien creatures. Each alien has it own look not one of them looked like they were copied and pasted. They all stood out from each other. The city of Alpha is pure eye candy. The visual effects team really brought their A-game to make the city look as gorgeous as it does.

Valerian and The City of a Thousand Planets has a visually beautiful city, creative alien designs, a good opening montage, Cara Delevingne was good at playing Laureline, and all the action was exciting, and thank god Rihanna had a reason to be here. The biggest problems are DeHaan and Delevingne didn't have much chemistry, humor that rarely or didn't work, and clichéd dialogue.

My final rating for this movie is Okay

So if you want to see Valerian and The City of a Thousand Planets I say it's definitely worth checking out but I wouldn't recommend you rushing into the theater to see it.

Raiders of the Lost Media - Bully (Original Uncut Version)

Disclaimer: I could be wrong on some details. So take this post with a grain of salt.

www.gstatic.com/tv/thumb/v22vodart/8725693/p872...

Welcome to another Raiders of the Lost Media and this time I'm doing something slightly different. Typical when I do lost films it's usually scripted but this time I decided to do a documentary. This movie was still released but it was censored. So let me tell you about the uncut version of Bully.

Part One - What was Bully?

Bully was a 2011 - 2012 American documentary. The documentary followed the lives of five students who face bullying on a daily basis at their schools. It's produced by Where We Live Films and Cinereach and distributed by The Weinstein Company. It was directed by Lee Hirsch.

Part Two - Rating Controversy

The Weinstein Company initially planned to release the film unedited. However this caused a major uproar because film contained six usage of the word fuck which was said by students. Then on February 27, 2012 an online petition was created and directed towards the CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) in order to reduce the movie's rating from R to PG-13, because the R rating would prevent the intended audience from seeing the film. Over 300,000 signatures were signed but the MPAA was reluctant.

Part Three - Response

Joan Graves of the MPAA said "though Bully is a wonderful film, the organization's primary responsibility is to provide information to parents about the film's content". On March 26, 2012 The Weinstein Company announced that it would release Bully unrated in protest of the MPAA's decision. This restricted the movie to art-house and independently owned theaters since AMC, Cinemark, and many other American cinema chains have rules against showing unrated films. However AMC said it would allow minors to watch the film as long as they had a signed permission slip from a parent or guardian. Regal Cinemas did indicate they would play the film but it would be treated as a R-rated movie.

Part Four - From R to PG-13

In April The Weinstein Company came to an agreement with the MPAA. After toning down the film it received a new rating of PG-13. Which meant that children of all ages could watch the movie without an adult. Then The Weinstein Company announced that the PG-13 rated version of Bully would be released nationwide on April 13, 2012, it's widest release was in 265 theaters.

Part Five - Is The R-Rated Version Out There?

Both the Blu-Ray and DVD versions of the film only contain the edited version and the original uncut movie has yet to see the light of day. Although it has been said that R-rated movie has been released on DVD in other countries but whether or not that's true remains a mystery since no copies have surfaced online.

So that ends another Raiders of the Lost Media. Come back next time because I'll be telling you about a lost episode to the popular show Mythbusters. Also I updated the schedule to State of the Project.

Road to Justice League - Justice League: Throne of Atlantis Review

Note: This review contains spoilers. You have been warned.

Related image

Justice League: Throne of Atlantis is a 2015 direct - to - video animated superhero film loosely based of The New 52 storyline Throne of Atlantis by Geoff Johns. The movie is third installment to the DC Animated Movie Universe. It's produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment and distributed by Warner Home Video.

The story is Arthur Curry has found out he is to be the King of Atlantis. Then he meets the Justice League and aids them in stopping his brother the Ocean Master from going to war with the surface world.

  • Negatives

One complaint I have with the movie is Aquaman's origin story & the Throne of Atlantis story clash with each other. At one point you go to Aquaman's origin then were in the Throne of Atlantis story and because of this a lot of awesome moments from Throne of Atlantis had to be cut out. Which sucks because I would have loved to seen Aquaman grab Batman by the throat & punch Superman.

  • Mix

Nothing to say here. So let's move on.

  • Positives

This is another DC animated movie that gives us spectacular action scenes. One of my favorite action scenes is when Superman is fighting a giant monster called the Dark Trench. That was cool.

One of the best scenes in my opinion. Is when Aquaman summons a shark to eat Black Manta. I loved that because I wanted him to do something similar to that in Justice League: War but with Parademons. So it's awesome they put that in here.

I also liked how the filmmakers made this feel like a journey for Aquaman. Nothing about it felt rushed. Him going from Arthur Curry to the King of Atlantis had a nice steady pace.

Now if you liked the animation/designs in Justice League: War then you will definitely like the style here as well.

Justice League: Throne of Atlantis' biggest problem is it flip flops from being an origin story for Aquaman to being Throne of Atlantis. However it does have great action, I loved that scene where Black Manta gets eaten by a shark, Aquaman's journey to become the King of Atlantis was nicely paced, and I enjoyed the animation.

My final rating for this movie is Okay

No War for the Planet of the Apes Review. Sorry.

Hey everybody so unfortunately I've got some bad news. The theater I go to won't be showing War for the Planet of the Apes. So since there's no movie there won't be a review on Saturday. Now if they change their minds and do show the film then there will be a review but judging by the way things are going that's not going to be the case because apparently people from Salem, Ohio can't get enough of Spider-Man: Homecoming or Despicable Me 3. So that's all I want to tell just so you can be informed on what's going on around here. I'm so sorry I couldn't give you a review but I don't run the theater so there's nothing I can do but apologize. Once again I'm sorry.

Spider-Man: Homecoming Easter Eggs

Note: This post contains spoilers. You have been warned.

It's that time again where I tell you about some the easter eggs I noticed and today I'm talking about the ones I found in Spider-Man: Homecoming. As always I didn't spot every single one just the ones I noticed. Now let's get started.

Related image

The opening music for the movie is the 1960's Spider-Man theme but instead of using the original version the movie used an acoustic style. Which sounds amazing.

Image result for the avengers invasion

The movie starts off in the aftermath of The Chitauri Invasion from The Avengers. All their weapons were being cleaned up by Adrian Toomes' crew and Tony Stark's damage control.

We also get to see Peter Parker's point of view during Captain America: Civil War. He's vlogging about the trip, getting his new suit, stealing Captain America's shield, and Ant-Man becoming a giant.

Image result for ultimate iron man

Since Tony Stark was in the movie let's get him out of the way. Throughout the movie he's wearing a suit of armor similar to Ultimate Iron Man.

Image result for spider man homecoming tony stark eye

During the limo scene between Tony & Peter if you look closely you can see Tony is healing from his black eye that he got in Captain America: Civil War.

Image result for mcu howard stark

We also get a Howard Stark easter egg. There's a painting of him on a wall at Peter's school.

Related image

We also see a headshot of Bruce Banner during one of Peter's classes. A photo of him can be seen above a whiteboard being a notable scientist of history.

We also get another cameo appearance from another Avenger that being Captain America. He appears in a fitness video when Peter is in gym class, then makes another appearance in a detention video and also appears at the post - credit scene talking about patience. He's also wearing his suit from the first Avengers movie.

The movie tells us that Midtown School was established in 1962. 1962 is the same year that Spider-Man debuted in Amazing Fantasy #15.

Image result for ultimate prowler

Donald Glover plays the character Aaron Davis. He's Prowler for Marvel Comics' Ultimate universe the character is also the uncle to Miles Morales. He's not a cat burglar like he is in the comics in the movie he's just a petty stick - up artist.

We also get another reference to Miles Morales. Aaron Davis' license plate is UCS-M01. It's probably a nod to Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1 which is the issue that Miles Morales debuted along with his uncle Aaron.

Spider-Man's homemade suit kind of bares a resembles to Scarlet Spider. What with the hoodie and exposed web shooters. The real differences are the mask, the inverted colors, and Peter Parker has red socks while Ben Reilly didn't have any socks.

Image result for spider-man steve ditkoImage result for spiderman todd mcfarlane

Let's continue talking about the Spider-Man costume only this time I tell you about the web wings. In the movie they did help Peter glad however in the comics their just there to look cool. Which they are. The two artist I know who used them the most were Steve Ditko and Todd McFarlane. Steve Ditko drew them a lot when he was the artist for Spider-Man. Todd McFarlane would sometimes draw but other times they wouldn't be there.

Spider-Man: Homecoming also gives a familiar gadget Spidey would use. That would be the Spider - Tracer. The Spider - Tracers are small electronic devices that would help Spider-Man track objects or one of his villains. Typically the only way he got these on people or objects is when they were departing.

Stan Lee has a cameo appearance in the movie. He's plays a New York apartment residents named Gary.

Betty Brant is also in the movie. In the comics she looks like she's in her 30's working for the Daily Bungle. In the movie she's a teenager and reports for Midtown School on their morning news station.

Many of the characters in Peter's high school have very familiar first names. Such as Laura Harrier playing a girl named Liz & Jacob Batalon playing a guy named Ned. However Laura isn't playing Liz Allan because he last name is Toomes. Jacob Batalon isn't playing Ned Leeds aka The Hobgoblin. They just share the same first name.

Zendaya plays a character named Michelle Jones. Near the end of the movie she says that people usually call her MJ. MJ is the nickname to Mary - Jane Watson. Peter Parker's longtime love interest.

Throughout the movie we told or shown what weapons belonged to what villains from previous Marvel Cinematic Universe films. During the bank robbing scene the burglars are using Chitauri technology from The Avengers, when Aaron Davis is buying weapons from Vultures' men their blasting stuff with an Ultron arm from Avengers: Age of Ultron, and The Shocker's gauntlet is one of the gauntlets that Crossbones lost in Captain America: Civil War.

Since I brought him up let's talk about The Shocker. Instead of just one Shocker we get two. The first person to have the Shocker name is Jackson Price aka Montana for a short time then he's accidently killed by The Vulture. The second person to get the name is Herman Schultz who's the original Shocker in the comics.

We also see some Star Wars toys in Spider-Man: Homecoming. The one featured the most in the movie is the Lego Death Star. When Peter comes home after the bank robbery if you look closely in his room you can see toy AT-ATs.

After The Vulture leaves to steal technology from Tony Stark's jet. We cut back to Peter being pinned down by rubble from the building that collapsed on him and he tries to find the strength to get it off him. They scene is very reminiscent to The Amazing Spider-Man Vol.1 #33.

So those were all the easter eggs I noticed in Spider-Man: Homecoming. I hoped you enjoyed it. I will definitely do this again in the future for Thor: Ragnarok & Justice League. Also I do have plans to do a Raiders of the Lost Media post about James Cameron's cancelled Spider-Man movie but haven been talking about nothing but Spider-Man from July 6th to today. So it's going to be awhile before I get to that but I like to keep you guys informed so when I get to work on that I'll tell you.

Spider-Man: Homecoming Review

Image result for spider-man homecoming poster

Spider-Man: Homecoming is a superhero film based on the Marvel Comics' character Spider-Man. The movie is the second reboot to the Spider-Man film franchise as well as the sixteen movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's produced by Columbia Pictures, Marvel Studios, and Pascal Pictures and distributed by Sony Pictures. The movie is written by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley and directed by Jon Watts.

The story is it's been two months after the events of Captain America: Civil War and Peter Parker is trying to prove himself to Tony Stark that he has what it takes to be an Avenger. He feels the only way to do this is by stopping a villain known as The Vulture.

  • Negatives

One character that I couldn't stand was Michelle played by Zendaya. She was weird and kind of snarky. I even hated the little easter egg they gave her. I won't give it away but they gave her a very familiar initial that you've heard before in Spider-Man comics. Overall I didn't like Michelle and I really felt the movie could do without her.

There's one thing to this movie that felt outdated and that was using the song Hey Ho, Let's Go by The Ramones. Yes it's a good song but how many movies have used that same song in their montages or end credits.

One thing that kept bugging throughout the whole movie was did the writers get rid of Spider-Man's spider sense? If they didn't then the filmmakers did a horrible job representing it and if they did then that's a terrible idea. The spider sense is one of Spider-Man's essential superpowers you don't get rid of that.

The last negative thing I'll say about this movie is the post - credit scene is awful. It's bad because it was a very self - aware moment. It wasn't a good choice mainly for the superhero they chose to do it with. The best way to describe is it felt like something Deadpool would have done not this character.

  • Mix

I have nothing to say. So let's move over to the positives.

  • Positives

Now I was worried this movie was going to have too much Tony Stark in it because that's what the marketing was doing. Thankfully that wasn't the case. Tony had in my opinion a good amount of screen time. There wasn't too little of him and there wasn't so much that it felt like it was Iron Man 4.

The action scenes in the movie are pretty good. They definitely won't beat Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy or Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man films but I still enjoyed them for what they are.

I liked the humor in this movie. Almost every joked worked expect the ones with Michelle. Two of my favorites are that I couldn't lose another student on a school trip joke & the last scene with Aunt May. Those two got a big laugh in the theater.

Every actor did a good job with their roles but Tom Holland & Michael Keaton were the ones that did an amazing job. Tom Holland is great as Spider-Man and his best moment is when he's pinned down underneath some rubble and he is just freaking out. That was done perfectly. Michael Keaton was great as The Vulture you understood why he was doing the things he does, the character had a nice twist to him, and Keaton's best moment was when he was in a car with Peter and he's threatening him to stay out of his way.

The last good thing to say about the movie is I really liked Peter Parker's determination to prove he can be an Avenger. He was doing anything he could whether it was big or small to show Tony that he can be on The Avengers. I definitely got invested on that part of the story.

Spider-Man: Homecoming's problems are Michelle's character, using an outdated song, a possibility that the spider sense is gone, and a really bad post - credit scene that's not worth waiting for. It's best aspects are a limited amount of Tony Stark, some good action scenes, hilarious moments, Tom Holland and Michael Keaton's performances, and Peter's drive to be part of The Avengers.

My final rating for this movie is Good

Raiders of the Lost Media - Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro (Pre - 9/11)

Disclaimer: I could be wrong on some details. So take this post with a grain of salt.

Welcome back to another installment of Raiders of the Lost Media. This time I'm talking about another video game only this one isn't lost it was released but it was edited then it's original version was leaked. I was going to write about James Cameron's Spider-Man movie but since this segment doesn't solely focus on movies I switched it for a Spider-Man video game. I may eventually tell you about that film but until then I'm going to talk about this. So let me tell you about the video game Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro but the pre - 9/11 version.

Part One - What Was Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro?

Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro was a 2001 action - adventure video game developed by Vicarious Visions and published by Activision for the PlayStation. It was a sequel to Neversoft's Spider-Man which was released the previous year.

Part Two - The Story & Other Bosses

The game's story is Spider-Man must stop Electro from obtaining a power source named the Bio - Nexus Device. Besides Electro other bad guys were The Lizard, Shocker, Sandman, and Hammerhead.

Part Three - Delay & Changes

The game's original release date was August 26, 2001 but after the September 11 attacks the game was pulled from stores and re-released on October 17, 2001. Between August & October Activision halted production of the game and wanted all references to buildings that resembled the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center removed. Many things were re-edited such as cutscenes and modifying the model of the World Trade Center by adding a large bridge to it. At one point in the game Electro would have shouted On top of the world! after a fight with Spider-Man. The line was clue for Spidey that he was going to the Twin Towers. The original ending to the game was Thor is credited for defeating Electro. Thor is here because he would have appeared in a segment where he talks to Spider-Man after he defeated Hyper-Electro. This was removed because it took place on top of the World Trade Center. Four levels also had their names changed because the developers thought they were related to 9/11. Crash Flight was changed to Wind Tunnel, Downward Spiral to The Corkscrew, Aces High to The Gauntlet, and Top of the World to The Best Laid Plans.

Part Four - Leaked

This version of the game would remain lost until 2015 when a Spanish YouTuber named ElVicioGamer leaked the game on his channel. Here's a link https://m.youtube.com/watchv=4TSiCXCSkgU

So that concludes another Raiders of the Lost Media. Next time I go back to films. Which movie it will it be? I honestly don't know yet but when I get it all figured I'll tell you.

Cinematic Disasters - Reefer Madness

I know I said this segment was all about reviewing bad movies that no one loves but after watching Movie 43 and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace with nothing but hated I decided to review a movie that people do like. Even thought we all know it's bad but bad in the right way.

Reefer Madness is a 1936 propaganda film. It was originally produced by George Hirliman for the film's 1936 release then produced by Dwain Esper for the 1938/1939 release and distributed by Motion Pictures Ventures. The movie was written by Arthur Hoerl and directed by Louis J. Gasnier.

The story is high school principal Dr. Alfred Carroll retells a story about the dangers of marijuana to an audience of parents. His story is about a boy named Jimmy and how his life spiraled out of control when it decided to smoke the evil drug.

Now typical my reviews have bullet points that explain the negatives, mix, and positives to a film but I'm going to do something different. I'm going to give you my thoughts on specific plot points and things I found funny and I also want to tell you about the film's legacy.

My Thoughts

If you pay attention closely somehow Dr. Carroll knows every detail to each and every character & event. He knows what they did a specific day, he knows where and when the smoked pot, he even knows when a character got dressed but how does he know all of this? We're never given a scene or scenes where the teens or drug dealers tell him these things. Some details are obvious but other than that how does he know when certain details happened?

I think Reefer Madness actually helped drug dealers. I say that because Dr. Carroll brings up methods anybody could use to sneak marijuana or other type of illegal drugs into a country or school.

Now let's talk about the teenagers of this movie. These characters are the most squeaky clean and purest teens I have ever seen in a movie. This people do all the right things. They do there homework with no procrastination or excuses, they come home on time, and they don't even drink soda. I question this because no way someone is this innocent especially in the age group their in.

The movie sure does like to use the word swell a lot. I mean almost everybody says swell. You can make a whole montage of the characters using that word.

Some of the dialogue here is just hilarious. There's one scene where Jimmy and his friends go to a diner and he orders drinks for them but he says this. Jimmy - Two sodas. No, I mean one soda and one root beer. Soda and root beer are the same thing!

This piano scene. Just watch it you will be amazed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKID2LRzIdY

There is no way pot makes you go that fast. Those two are clearly on something else.

The filmmakers definitely don't know what happens to you when you smoke weed because here is a list of side effects from the movie.

- Commit a hit and run accident
- Manslaughter
- Suicide
- Attempted rape
- Hallucinations

and

- Decent into insanity

I don't know everything about weed nor have I ever smoked any but I do know it causes hallucinations but I pretty sure your not going to kill someone or try to commit rape.

Legacy

I'm very surprised the movie has as much of legacy as it does. Not only is it a cult classic but some see the film as a perfect example of a midnight movie. During the early 1970's the movie was "rediscovered" and gained even more fans. People now see as a unintentional satire among advocates of cannabis policy reform. The one of the posters for Reefer Madness can also be seen in other films such as Mary Jane's Not a Virgin Anymore, Happy Hour, How High, and Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy. The movie has also made appearances in films like A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, Grass, and I Am Divine. Even TV shows bring up the film. A clip of it can be seen in Adam Ruins Everything, That 70's Show spoofed it and TCM Underground dedicated an episode to talk about it and of course it was made fun of by RiffTrax. The movie even got stage adaptions. One was made in Chicago back in 1992 by Sean Abley and the other one spoofed the film. That play ran from 1998 to 2013. Then that same play was later remade in 2005 for a made for TV movie that stars actors such as Alan Cummings and Kristen Bell.

Reefer Madness has characters that are too innocent, bland, or over the top, the filmmakers had no idea what the side effects of cannabis are, and the film tries way to hard to convince us that marijuana is a bad thing even thought their information is completely inaccurate. However that what makes the movie great. Yes drugs are in no way a good thing but the lengths that some will go to tell you can be funny and this film goes to huge lengths to tell us that marijuana is an awful product.

My final rating for this movie is So Bad It's Good

That was a fun Cinematic Disaster review. I will occasional do more films that are so bad they're good but for now let's go back to films we hate. Because my next review for Cinematic Disasters will be an animated feature. That flick will be 2012's Foodfight.
