Road to How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World - How To Train Your Dragon Review

How To Train Your Dragon - Poster Gallery

Well everyone it's time for another installment of the Road to and this time it's for the How To Train Your Dragon series. Let's being shall we?

How To Train Your Dragon is a 2010 3D animated action fantasy film loosely based on Cressida Cowell 2003 book of the same name. The movie's produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Paramount Pictures. How To Train Your Dragon was written by Chris Sanders, Dean Deblois and William Davies and directed by Chris Sanders and Dean Deblois.

The story is Hiccup is a Norse teenager from the island of Berk. On that island fighting dragons is a way of life. Hiccup isn't all for this way of life which makes him an outcast among the rest. One day Hiccup befriends a dragon that he has named Toothless. With this new friendship Hiccup thinks he has found a new life for the future of his people.

  • Negatives

I've got nothing to say. Let's move on.

  • Mix

The real grey area for this movie is the story. It's very predictable where everything is going to go with Hiccup and Toothless and Hiccup and his father. Despite that I wouldn't say that's going to stop anyone from watching the movie.

  • Positives

Let's get this out of the way right now. The animation is beautiful. So many details were put into the character's designs. Where it really shines through is the designs of the dragons and the flight scenes. Especially the flight scenes.

Since this is a DreamWorks Animation film you can expect a good amount of humor. There are a lot of funny moments. Most of them come from Gobber.

Speaking of Gobber. That brings me to the characters. Their all great and have their own moments. I really liked this group (too bad we'll have to say goodbye to them when How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World comes out).

How To Train Your Dragon is a fun movie for everyone to see. The animation is wonderful especially for those flying sequences, the humor is nice, and I definitely liked the characters. The only thing I wished was done slightly different was the predictable stories among Hiccup, Toothless, and Hiccup's father.

My final rating is Good

So that's going to do it for me. Come back Thursday, February 7th for a brand new Is It True? Where I go back to the world of The Lego Movie to tackle a fan theory I just recently discovered. That will be in celebration of The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part. Until then enjoy the rest of your day.

Awful Moviegoers Rant 2

Related image

You know I was actually debating if I should even make another one of these, but after what happened back in late 2017 to 2018 I just have to get this off my chest. So yes I'm making another rant of my annoyance from awful moviegoers. If you want to look at my previous rant just click here. So let's being shall we?

Nov 3rd, 2017

So on this day it was the release of Thor: Ragnarok and while I'm not the biggest Thor fan I was still looking forward to the movie. Now everything felt great everything felt very quite just like a theater should be. But then this two obnoxious idiots came in and I swear either they don't know how to whisper or they always talk like frat boys. This was seriously their conversation.

Guy #1: DUDE! Are these those rumbler seats I've heard about!

Guy #2: Yeah dude!

Guy #1: Whhhaaatttt! Whhhhaaattt!

Yeah...that was the way they talked. Sure it was only a minor annoyance but come on not everybody wants to know what kind of bros you are. Luckily they remained silent throughout the whole movie. So I guess there's that.

Apr 6th, 2018

Around this time this is when the film A Quiet Place and I was really looking forward to this movie because I would have been a challenge for me. Because looking back at the previous films I reviewed this was an original story. All my other reviews were usually an adaption or sequel. So when I entered the theater I was nicely comfortable. I had a drink, popcorn, and a good seat. Unfortunately my relaxation was ruined because someone just had to use their cellphone. Now luckily they didn't use it during the movie unluckily that had the flashlight on and got hit directly in the face. And I'm not talking a tiny bit of it or a slim bit of light I'm talk the full light got in my face. Now I admit I have used a flashlight on my phone before during a theater but that was when the movie was long over. And I know for a sure fact if with a dim flashlight whatever you're doing can be done with that dim light.

Aug 3rd, 2018

On this day I was going to see Christopher Robin. There I was with my root beer in one hand and popcorn in the other ready to enjoy a wholesome Disney movie. Then this family came out to the front room to the recliner seats right where I was. Now they were perfectly fine when the lights were on and before any previews or trivia questions came but then all that changed when the lights went off. The mom was playing on her phone and her son being very loud. One question came up was some question related to Batman and her kid shouted "BRUCE WAYNE!" then we got another question I forget what it was and yet again the kid was shouting. He's not whispering he's shouting. And there's mom playing on her phone and says tell her kid "hush". But in instead of saying with authority it was just boredom. Then the movie starts luckily the kid was quiet (thankfully). But we still have mom dicking around on her phone. She's doing this for the entire opening. I'm starting to think we need to have those cubbies from preschool in the movie theater. But instead of your jacket, your bag, or anything else it's your phone.

Sept 14th, 2018

During this time I was off to see The Predator. Now unfortunately we did have a problem with the film, it did stutter for one scene but that wasn't the problem I faced. It was yet again another phone situation! During the scene where the soldiers are being transported on a bus someone across from thought "hey it's time to whip out my phone." Why!? Why do people feel the need to take their phones out during the f*cking movie! I don't get it! There are not one not two but three different messages telling you to turn your phones off! How many times do movie theaters need to tell you to turn your phone off! Seriously guys this whole deal with cellphones really drives a film buff like me crazy.

Oct 5th, 2018

So this was an exciting time because one of my most anticipated comic book films Venom was coming out. Now I'm going to be honest around that time that was my second viewing. The first time my buddy Brian said "Hey man you want to hangout and see an early screening of Venom with me?" Now I enjoyed that movie but I wanted to see it a second time that way when I posted my review it didn't come off like a bias fanboy. So I go to my second viewing of Venom and of course more cellphone usage! Because apparently people can't go an 1 hour or maybe 2 hours without going on their damn cellphones! During the middle part of the second act some teenage girl decided to look at her phone. Now shockingly she went to the lobby. I was like "oh...someone finally gets it." Only for her to go back twenty seconds later and continue playing on it! Soooo basically she understood 8% of what a movie theater has been telling people. So she continues looking at her phone until the second act was over and we began the third act. I'm starting to think there should be a law that says you're legally allowed to destroy someone's phone. I know that sounds extreme but I had enough of these damn cellphones!

Nov 21st, 2018

Now we're on my final terrible experience with awful moviegoers and it was the worst of them all. I was going to see Ralph Breaks the Internet and to be fair I was expect some rowdy kids but rowdy kids and adults that don't know how to discipline their kids was not something I was expecting. This had to be the worst crowd I have ever been with. One, we had two teenage girls who felt the need to take a selfie a dark theater room. Why couldn't they do it the lobby you may ask? Well that would have been convenient for everyone else around them. Then we had a family who apparently the parents didn't know what do. They had their son who I guess may have been four years old. He's running back and forth between sections. He's also jumping up and flinging his arms around and just to make matters worse he's clinging he's cup's lid and the cup together to make this annoying popping sound while at the same time yelling "aaahhh!" Every once in awhile the mom would give him a look and he would remain calm for a few minutes then he go right back at it. And then of course just to make even more awful another teenage girl decides to look at her phone because "oh we just have to see what my Twitter and/or Facebook status is." I can not tell you how tempted I was to leave and come back for another showing. It was that bad and it was definitely the worst theater experience I've had.

So that's going to do it for me. Hopefully and I mean hopefully with my fingers crossed I never deal with this again. Seriously folks if your going to go see a movie remember this. A movie theater is like your public library, who have to be absolutely quiet and respectful to the people around you. A movie theater is NOT a playground! Oh I almost forgot on Thursday, January 31st look out for my review of How To Train Your Dragon. That will be part one of the Road to How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.

Glass Review

Glass is superhero thriller film and the final chapter to the Eastrail 177 TrilogyThe movie is produced by Buena Vista International, Blinding Edge Pictures, and Blumhouse Productions and distributed by Universal Pictures. Glass is written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

The story is David Dunn, Elijah Price, and Kevin Crumb are all being held up in a mental ward because Dr. Ellie Staple thinks they are suffering from delusions of grandeur. Then through a series of escalating events both David and Kevin will soon learn that Elijah holds secrets critical to both of them.

Initial Reaction

Now having enjoyed both Unbreakable and Split I was looking forward to Glass. While yes it's a sequel to two very good movies but what got me the most excited was that Shyamalan created he's own essentially comic book universe but with he's own original characters. Which is what drew me in the most. This franchise is it's own universe. It's not the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the DC Extended Universe where it's based on the Marvel or DC comics. It's not the MonsterVerse where it's a reboot of Godzilla and King Kong. And it's not Universal's Dark Universe (by the way does anybody know if that still has plans to continue) where it's a reboot of the Universal Monsters. So I was fully aboard for this movie.

Cons

I've got nothing to say. So let's move on.

Middle Ground

Now there are two very big twist in this movie. The first one I felt was a little bit predictable because I watched Split not too long ago for this film. So when it happens it's not quite shocking. The second twist on the other hand was beautiful. I loved it.

Pros

One part of the film to enjoy is how it focusses more on characters than what their abilities. So if you're looking for a big explosive film your not gonna get that. My absolute favorite thing about Glass was the villain's plan. I was almost going to be disappointed because I thought we gonna get this big plot where Elijah Prince was going to kill a bunch of people. Nope that wasn't it at all. I'm not giving it away so it's best if you just watch the movie to find out what it is. Another thing that got me by surprise was there's actually another villainous plan at play, and I'm just going to leave it at that. Now to discuss the performances. Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, and James McAvoy are all spectacular. But I feel the best was James. Because come on. The guys playing 24 different characters. It automatically gets most of the credit. The other aspect of Glass you'll enjoy is the callbacks to both Unbreakable and Split. It was great. Although if you want to understand these you definitely have to watch the previous films. The final thing I'll praise the movie for is the ending. At first me and my buddy Brian were pissed. But once the film continues to show more and more of what's really going on. We both loved it. Once again I won't give it away just go watch the movie.

Glass is the perfect ending to this trilogy. There's more focus on characters than big fights, Elijah's plan was great, another diabolical plot was a nice twist, the performances get two thumbs up (especially McAvoy), the callbacks to previous installments were nice, and I loved that ending. One twist wasn't all that shocking but at the same time wasn't bad. It was just serviceable.

My final rating is Great

So guys I truly mean it when I say go see Glass. It's an amazing film. Then after that come back on Monday, January 28th because well... I gotta rant about some moviegoers that really sucked back in 2018. Until then enjoy the rest of your day.

Reign of the Supermen Review

Reign of the Supermen is an animated direct-to-video comic book film based the comic book event of the same name. The movie is a sequel to 2018's The Death of Superman and the twelfth film in the DC Animated Movie Universe as well as the thirty-third movie in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies library. Reign of the Supermen is produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Films and distributed by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The film is written by Tim Sheridan and Jim Krieg and directed by Sam Liu.

The story is after the death of Superman by the hands of Doomsday, Metropolis is left without a hero. Then one day not one not two not three but four new Supermen appear all claiming to be Superman. However while citizens of Metropolis and the Supermen themselves are having this debate, a deadly force is coming to Earth.

Initial Reaction

So since I enjoyed The Death of Superman so much I was definitely looking forward to the sequel Reign of the Supermen. And like I said in my review of The Death of Superman it was about time we got a new animated Superman film after so many other non-related solo Superman films.

Cons

One thing I'm still not liking is Rainn Wilson's voice for Lex Luthor. Like I said in my Death of Superman review the voice just sounds too nasally. The other thing I wasn't all that for was Superboy's design. Now yes he is a teenager so I wasn't expecting him to look exactly like Superman or look like the Superboy from Young Justice because then that would have been lazy but he looked more like he was twelve than sixteen.

Middle Ground

The only thing I felt like the filmmakers could have done more on is The Eradicator. While he does serve his purpose to the story it still felt like he took a back seat to Steel, Superboy, and Cyborg Superman.

Pros

Now to get this out way the animation is good. Once again DC shows that yes while you're on a direct-to-video budget that doesn't mean your film has to be completely cheap. The other part of the movie I liked was all of the fights with the Supermen. From Superboy vs. The Eradicator to Superman vs. Cyborg Superman. Another aspect of Reign of the Supermen I enjoyed is Superboy. While he still has his own dark storyline with Lex Luthor he was still a fun character. Now the film does do a good job adapting the story arc. Yes it does have some changes here and there but so do some of the other comic book films. But overall it keeps some story elements while at the same time adding something new. The last thing I'll give Reign of the Supermen praise for is the post- credit scene. I won't give it away but it does leave you interested for the next film in the DC Animated Movie Universe.

Reign of the Supermen is a worthy sequel to The Death of Superman. The animation is nice, the fight scenes with the Supermen were awesome, Superboy was an entertaining character despite going through his own struggles, the movie does adapt the original story pretty well, and the post-credit scene leaves you curious for the next movie in this universe. The Eradicator could have used more work in the story that way it didn't feel pushed to the back. My only complaints were Superboy's design and once again Rainn's Lex voice.

My final rating is Good

So guys that's going to do it for me. Come back on Saturday, January 19th for my review of M. Night Shyamalan's newest film Glass. Until then enjoy the rest of your day.

Road to Glass - Split Review

James McAvoy in Split (2016)

Split is 2017 psychological horror-thriller movie and the second installment of the Eastrail 177 Trilogy. The movie is produced by Blinding Edge Pictures and Blumhouse Productions and distributed by Universal Pictures. Split was written and directed M. Night Shyamalan.

The story is Kevin has 23 personalities each one different from the other. One day Kevin kidnaps three teenage girls named Casey, Claire, and Marcia. All three girls are part of a plan by Dennis (one of Kevin's personalities) to be sacrificed to Kevin's 24th personality named "The Beast". The girls must find a way to escape or they will be killed by this dangerous persona.

  • Negatives

One issue I have with the movie is the other two girls. Claire and Marcia. Due to Shyamalan being more focused on Casey those two other girls get pushed to the back. So there not as fleshed out as like I said Casey.

The other problem in the film is Dr. Fletcher is having a press conference about DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder). It's just basically one big exposition dump. It was just "here's a bunch of information until we move on to the next scene".

  • Mix

I've got nothing to say. Let's move on.

  • Positives

Now there are performances that are great such as Betty Buckley (as Dr. Karen Fletcher) and Anya Taylor-Joy (as Casey Cooke). But the actor who is truly the best out of all the others is James McAvoy as Kevin Crumb. He made sure each personality is different from each other. And you tell that just by the voice and facial expressions he gives each of these personalities.

Now I complained about Claire and Marcia were not very good characters. I thought that was going to be the case for Casey but no. It wasn't. You think she's just going to this blank slate but there are actually lairs to her character. She has a backstory that I won't give away if you haven't seen the film that due to her history it actually helps her out with one of Kevin's personalities.

One thing I wasn't expecting from the movie was it had a good sense of humor. I mean they give us jokes for when we are suppose to laugh. Because before Split and even before Shyamalan's previous film before this The Visit, he put humor in his films but often time you were questioning "should we be laughing or not"? Stuff like that. Here however it's well balanced and not questioning anything.

Another part of Split I want to give the movie credit for is the intense finale. Wow. That was like I said intense. I really can't do the finale justice with my words. It's one of those scenes in film that you have to see to believe.

The final thing I'll praise Split for is the ending. When I first saw the movie awhile back it completely took me by surprise. And even watching it again for this review it's still surprising.

Split was definitely one of the best films from 2017. It has great performances mostly from McAvoy, Casey is very fleshed out, there's a good sense of humor without it being inappropriate, a perfect intense finale, and an awesome ending. My only problems with the film are Claire and Marcia just kind of being there and that exposition scene with Dr. Fletcher. But with this movie the good out ways the bad.

My final rating is Great

So that's going to do it for me guys. My review for Glass will either come out on Saturday or Sunday. It all depends on when my buddy Brian can see it with me. Yes I could see it for myself on Friday but I made a promise I wouldn't and I'd rather not break a promise to a friend. Also before my review of Glass goes up come back on Thursday, January 17th for my review of the new DC animated film Reign of the Supermen. Until then enjoy the rest of your day.

Road to Glass - Unbreakable Review

Hello everyone and welcome to a series of reviews I never thought I do but...here we are. So anyways with the movie Glass coming out soon I figured I review the first two films in M. Night Shyamalan's cinematic universe. So let's being with the film that started it all Unbreakable.

Unbreakable is 2000 superhero film and the first part of the Eastrail 177 Trilogy. The movie is produced by Touchstone Pictures, Blinding Edge Pictures, Barry Mendel Productions, and Limited Edition Productions Inc. and distributed by Buena Vista Pictures. Unbreakable was written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

The story is after surviving a fatal train crash David Dunn wants to find out how that could be. Especially since he didn't even get a small scratch on him. While he's figuring out how his newly found powers work, he also finds a conspiracy that may explain why Eastrail #177 crashed.

  • Negatives

I've got nothing to say. Let's move on.

  • Mix

I've got nothing to say. Let's move on.

  • Positives

One aspect of this movie I like was it was a superhero film in disguise. When I first watched this movie without knowing a single thing I about it I was surprise it was all about David becoming a real-life superhero.

Another thing I love about this movie is it does something I wish more comic book films would instead of it being a rare case, is it brings a very serious tone to the genre. There aren't any one liners or jokes the movie plays it straight through and through.

The biggest surprise for me with Unbreakable is Bruce Willis' performance. Now no I never thought he was a bad actor by any means. What I'm saying is he gives a very strong performance in this movie. Even when he's not talking the character he still saying something through his facial expressions and/or body language.

Now I want to talk Elijah Prince. He's very much an interesting character. One thing that helps he's character stand out is the disease he has called Type I osteogenesis imperfecta or brittle bone disease. Basically it means he's bones can be easily broken. So in this movie he feel sorry for him. But with how strongly he believes in his beliefs you really start to admire him.

Another part of the film to love is James Newton Howard's score. Wow. His music for this film is so underrated. I mean the best parts of the music is when David rescues people from someone called "The Orange Man" and his choking him out. The music for that scene is so inspirational. Yeah I know that sounded messed up but to watch that scene and try to tell me after that you don't want to be a superhero.

The other piece of the movie I liked is there are certain parts in the movie that are framed like a comic book. In some comics a character will be reflected on to a doorway or he just see their reflection. Like I said it's very comic book-ish.

Now to discuss the twist. Now back in 2000 when the film came out nobody liked the twist to Unbreakable. Back then they were pretty much expecting something like Shyamalan's previous movie The Sixth Sense. But if you rewatch the film you'll notice that it makes sense for this character to be the villain in this movie.

Unbreakable is a criminally underrated film. It was a superhero film without telling us it's a superhero film, I love the serious tone, Willis' performance is great, Elijah's a very interesting character, James Newton Howard's score is amazing, there are certain shots that give the movie a comic book feel, and the twist is actually pretty good.

My final rating is A Must Watch

Alright everyone that's going to do it for me. Come back Monday, January 14th for part two of my Road to Glass with my review of 2017's Split. Until then enjoy the rest of your day.

I'm Getting Ride of State of The Project

Hey everyone so yeah If you have read the title you know I have some I guess unfortunate news or maybe you just don't care but either way I want to get this off my chest. So yes, I've decide to get rid of my schedule aka State of The Project. For any of you asking why it's quite simple really. I just don't feel like I'm doing as much as I should with it. What I mean by that is where some people have a schedule they give you updates all the way to the next three weeks. Me on the other hand I've just be giving you all an update one at a time. My other reason is things surrounding what I'm going to review next are not as simple as I thought. I keep thinking maybe my theater will show this movie only for it to bite me in the ass later. My final reason being are I've been getting into the habit of telling you what's coming next as suppose to letting the State of The Project tell you. Now yes back in my review of 2009's Wonder Woman I said I wanted to keep you updated but since then I've decided to change that. That's all I wanted to say. Now my next projects are what I'm hoping can be a Road to Glass (in where I review Unbreakable and Split) and what will happen is a review of the upcoming DC animated movie Reign of the Supermen. So until next time enjoy the rest of your day.
