My Most Anticipated Movies of 2021

Hey everyone and welcome to the year 2021! So as you can see by the title I'm going to tell which films I'm looking forward to this year. I've been waiting to do something like this since the very beginning but sadly I just never could get around to it because other things got in the way. Granted some of the movies on this list may not get reviews because they simply didn't show up in my theater or I just didn't have the time. Also these are in no particular order. Either way let's get started.

March

Okay, before I get into why I'm looking forward to these movies let me just say something first. The reason I'm starting off in Mar is because the previous two months aren't showing anything that really interest me. Sure Disney+ will have a movie releasing in Feb but I wouldn't put that on my most anticipated list. Anyways NOW we can begin.

The first movie I'm looking forward to Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon. From what I've seen from the teaser trailer and the synopsis I read this looks like it's going to a very interesting movie. I like the way it looks and going back to that synopsis it seems like an exciting fantasy adventure film. I'm just hoping nothing Frozen related pops up before the movie starts (😆).

The next movie I want to see is Cherry. What made me want to see this is it's a Russo Brothers flick and Tom Holland is going to star in it. The Russo Brothers made Extraction and I thought that was a good action flick from them and I'm also interested to see Tom Holland do something else other than being Spider-Man. He was fantastic in The Devil All the Time so I think he'll provide another great performance for this.

Another March movie that grabbed my attention is Morbius. Since Sony started their own Marvel universe with Venom I've been very curious what to else they'll bring to the table. And after watching the trailer for this movie last year before it was pushed back because of COVID both me and a buddy of mine I've been planning to see this movie. So yes, I'm very excited for the next movie in the Sony's Marvel universe.

Now we have a movie I don't think my theater will be showing but I'm still hoping in one way or another I'll be able to review it, and that one is called The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. This movie sounds like it's going to be crazy. We have Nicolas Cage being held hostage by a crazed super fan and he most escape/fight his way out of this by becoming his most iconic characters. What else do I gotta say about that other than I'm in.

The last movie for the month of March I'm looking forward to is Zack Snyder's Justice League. Because of course I put this on the list. I've only been begging for this movie since 2017. Really curious/excited for what Zack did for this movie before things got messed with during the initial production. I think we'll be in for one hell of a ride.

April

The first of two movies I'm looking forward to is Mortal Kombat. Now I like the video games and I'm looking forward to this newest live-action movie. What I'm really hoping for in this movie is while it was in production they took a page from Scorpion's Revenge and it's rated r. Because all of that action/violence is what made the franchise. Although one thing's for certain it's not going to be anywhere near as awful as Annihilation.....or at least that's what I'm hoping for.

The last movie on the list for this movie is A Quiet Place: Part II. Now having love the first movie I was looking forward to this back in 2020. But soon it got delayed to later month and then just pushed back to April of this year. Either way I'm really curious as to where the filmmakers are going to take these characters after the events of the first movie and what kind of surprises we're going to see from this one.

May

For the month of May one of the movies I'm looking forward to in this month is Black Widow. Been looking forward to since last year but much like almost every other movie on this list it got effect by the Coronavirus. What I'm mainly hoping for with this movie is we don't have another Captain Marvel on our hands. Seriously, that better not happen.

Now this is a movie I have absolutely no plans to see on HBO Max. I don't care what I have to do to see it in theaters and that movie is called Godzilla vs. Kong. Now every since 2014's Godzilla I have enjoyed every single movie to come out of the MonsterVerse. No, this films aren't the most sophisticated movies ever made, but 1) Who in their right mind wants that from a franchise that features Godzilla. 2) Not every movie needs to be like that and 3) their not sophisticated but damn are they some AWESOME action flicks. In matter of fact that's what I'm really hoping for with this film. Because both Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of the Monsters have given us great monster fighting monster or monsters action.

Now this is a movie I almost didn't have any plans to see, thankfully I finally came around did research on it. That movie is Free Guy. What makes me excited about this movie is not only is Ryan Reynolds in it but I like the plot. A non-playable character (NPC) decides he's going to be the hero of a PC game. I find that not only interesting but pretty funny. What also caught my interest on the movie is it's an original idea. It's not a sequel, remake, or reboot to anything. So that's plus.

The last movie I'm looking forward to for the month of May is F9 aka Fast & Furious 9. Much like the MonsterVerse films I see these movies as what they and those are just good turn-off your brain entertainment. And every single Fast and Furious movie I ever saw has been exactly that. Sure I'll have an issue or two somewhere with this movie but for the most part I'm looking forward to whatever crazy action scenes we're gonna get.

June

One of the movies I'm looking forward to in June is The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. In one of those rare occasions both of the previous Conjuring movies have been done very well. So I'm really hoping we have yet another good movie in this series. I'm crossing my fingers that it won't be one of those situations where we have two goods movies but the third one is either okay or bad. Really hoping for a decent film.

The next June movie I'm looking forward to is Ghostbusters: Afterlife. I really think this one will be an improvement after the disastrous film we got back in 2016. Really curious about how the original cast are going play into this film, I'm hoping it's not a bunch of cheap cameos like the 2016 movie. But right now we're just gonna have to wait and see.

The last film for the month of June is Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Having been a fan of the first movie of course I would be looking forward to the sequel. What especially got me excited was two things. 1) We've got Carnage and his one of my favorite Marvel villains and 2) Andy Serkis is directing. That last one really peaked my interest and I'm curious of what he'll do for this.

July

To start off what movies I'm looking forward to in July is Top Gun: Maverick. I've got a very simple reason for why I'm looking forward to this one and it's because it's the sequel to the first. And that's pretty much it. Sorry if you were looking for a more sophisticated reason but that's all I got (😆).

The next on the list is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. What has me interested in this is because not only is it another MCU movie it's that it's a character I have no clue about. So I'm really curious just how this movie is going to be because we haven't been with this character like we've been with the previous such as Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and etc. Also the main star supported the Snyder cut and I promised to see the movie on opening night because of that (😂).

The next is Space Jam: A New Legacy. What I'm really hoping for is even though the Looney Tunes need help from another basketball star I'm still hoping we get a new story and not a rehash. But regardless loved the first movie and I'm really excited about the sequel.

The last movie is Old. Ever since The Visit back in 2015, M Night. Shyamalan has really gotten back to making good movies. Split was great and I don't give one single f*ck what critics said Glass was awesome. So I'm excited what Shyamalan has planned for this one. Especially since we haven't gotten any info on what this movie is about. I know it's because it's earlier to have marketing for a movie that isn't going to be in theaters until July but what I'm saying is it almost feels like Shyamalan's keeping everything a secret and because of that my interest is through the roof.

August

Now we have the month of August and one of two movies I'm anticipating is The Suicide Squad. The two things that got me interested in it is I want to see what direction James Gunn will take this and it's going to be rated R.

The next and last movie for August I'm looking forward to is Candyman. Two reasons I'm thrilled for this is because 1) It's going to be a sequel to the first movie thus ignoring the previous two flicks. Although I do admit I didn't mind Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh (aka Candyman 2) but that third movie was pretty bad. And 2) Tony Todd is going to reprise his role as Candyman. I was really hoping that would be the case when I first heard the announcement and thankfully he's back.

September

Once again I'm only looking forward to two movies for this and one of those is the newest Resident Evil. What peaked my interest with this is the filmmakers are saying they're going to make this film resemble more of the video games. Which is what I head a lot of fans complain about with the previous film series. I actually do have hopes for this especially since of recently we've been getting a lot of good video game flicks. So hopefully we can put this one in the good category.

The last movie I'm looking forward to for Sept is The Boss Baby: Family Business. The reason being is I kind of liked the first movie. Sure I still had issues but I still found it entertaining. So naturally I'd be looking forward to the sequel.

October

For the month of October I'm without a shadow of doubt looking forward to Dune. I love Denis Villeneuve as a director and his last two sci-fi flicks were great. Arrival was phenomenal and I loved Blade Runner 2049. So I got big expectations with this one. And much like Godzilla vs. Kong I'm hoping to this one in the theaters on the big screen as suppose to HBO Max.

The next one is Halloween Kills. After watching/reviewing Halloween (2018) I've been looking forward to it's sequel. Got excited for the 2020 release date, then COVID happened, but got excited again when I found out the 2021 release date. Really excited for this one especially since David Gordon Green (the film's director) had this to say

"This one gets right into the action. It's very aggressive. It's more efficient. We wanted it to be more explosive middle before things get streamlined and personal again."

So what that tells me is we're going to be in for one hell of a ride, and I'm all for it.

The final October film I'm excited for is Snake Eyes. The sole reason being Snake Eyes is my favorite G.I. Joe character (sorry Duke. I still love ya but Snake Eyes is just cooler). So since I heard we're getting a G.I. Joe movie focusing on Snake Eyes got me excited.

November

The one and only movie I'm looking forward to in November is Eternals. What I'm hoping for is Marvel Studios takes this 100% seriously or at the very least have a tone similar to Avengers: Infinity War. Because we already have cosmic comedy with both Guardians of the Galaxy movies & Thor: Ragnarok.

December

The first film I'm interested in for the month of December is the remake of West Side Story. Now I'm not a full blown fan of musicals but what got me thinking about seeing this movie is Steven Spielberg will be directing. So I'm very curious what he's going to do with this movie.

The next one is Spider-Man 3. Now what I'm hoping for is that the rumors is to have all three Spider-Men teaming up are true, I know some people aren't to hyped because it's going to be a live-action Spider-Verse and think the animated movie was good enough. I say if the writers can make a good story based on an already existing one then let's give them a chance.

Then we have The Matrix 4. Now I love the first movie and I think even though the sequels have their issues they're still fun to watch. So I have no idea where the story could possibly go? Until then we're just gonna have to wait and see.

And the last one for not only December but this list in general is Sing 2. I loved the first movie and had a lot of fun with it. So it goes without saying that I'm looking forward to this and can't wait to see what story the filmmakers have in store.

So that's my list. Yes there are some movies I'm looking forward to from streaming services such as Netflix, HBO Max (kinda touched upon that with the Snyder Cut), AppleTV+, etc. But I'm mainly a theater guy and I also wanted to make this list just a tiny bit short compared to other folks who have a list that's like a mile long. Anyhow that's going to do it for me. Come back on Thursday, Jan 14th for my review of Batman: Soul of the Dragon. Until then enjoy the rest of your day.
