Kong: Skull Island Review

 Kong: Skull Island is the eighth King Kong film and the second film in Legendary's MonsterVerse following 2014's Godzilla.


The story is that a team of scientist, soldiers, and adventurers go to a supposed uncharted as they further explore the island they learn they are not alone.

• Negatives

One bad thing about this film is once were introduced to the character James Conrad(Tom Hiddleston) two guys try to I guess mug him and he beats them up with a pool cue but the editing just made it look like a series of jump cuts.

Another thing is for some weird reason the director Jordan Vogt-Richards had some shots were it looked like a first person shooter game it's just a few seconds but it looked so odd to me.

The final bad thing I'll say about this film is Brie Larson's character and Kong get on good terms pretty quick. They meet like two times and they all ready have a bond.

• Mix

One aspect I'm in a grey area is the human characters I didn't hate them but they could have used some work. They do try to give us some development for example Tom Hiddleston's character tells us a story about his father but other than that he's just another action hero. Also they give Samuel L. Jackson's character a very interesting trait and that is he's not comfortable with being in a safe & calm place he loves being in anything that is a warzone but once Kong appears he then turns into Captain Ahab like I said I didn't hate any characters I just wish there was more to them.

• Positives

Now let's talk about the thing we all wanted to see and that's Kong just beating the hell out of all the other creatures on Skull Island and it's awesome! Every time Kong went on a rampage whether it be destroying all the soldiers or fighting other monsters I got excited it was just so badass.

Speaking of Kong and the other monsters let's talk about there designs. Kong definitely looks great they really put some time to make sure he looked as cool as possible also this film does something that I liked in the Peter Jackson film from 2005 and that was they gave him scars it's little detail I like because it just shows how much of fighter King Kong is. Also the "Skull Crawlers" those are the other monsters in the film they looked pretty cool I liked how their heads actually had a skull looking design to them and their not giving that name just to sound cool.

Also the film does put some humor in here. Now I'm not going to say every joke will make you laugh because some of them won't I didn't laugh at all of them but most of them will some of them come from John C. Reilly.

On a quick note because this is a movie that's part of a cinematic universe we have a post-credit scene let me just say I recommend staying to see it I think it gives you a nice set up for Godzilla vs. Kong.

While Kong: Skull Island has some flaws and I do wish the human characters had more to them than what were giving this film is enjoyable seeing Kong just tear through anything that gets in his path was sweet and the looks on both him and the Skull Crawlers are well done, the humor does work on some occasions and that post-credit scene is definitely worth staying in the theater for.

My final rating for this movie is Good.





Also on another quick said note I'm glad this reboot didn't giving us yet another story about the greed of mankind like the 1976 and 2005 version did thank you for that Kong: Skull Island.

A Look Back at Godzilla (2014)

With Kong: Skull Island arriving in theaters tomorrow and it's going to be the second film in Legendary Pictures' MonsterVerse aka the Godzilla/Kong Cinematic Universe I think it would be a good idea to look back at the first film to start off this cinematic universe and that would be Godzilla(2014).

Godzilla is a 2014 American monster film and a reboot to Toho's Godzilla franchise it's also the 30th Godzilla film in the franchise. It also the second American made Godzilla film and it is a way better Godzilla than that disaster we got in 1998.

The story is giant monsters are causing a rampage through out the world and only the King of the Monsters himself Godzilla can stop them.

• Negatives

One bad thing to this film is the lack of Godzilla. Seriously whenever we get to see Godzilla fight the other two monsters that cut away. There's even a scene where Godzilla is going to fire his atomic breath and then they cut away to let us see what the human characters are doing. We don't get a full fledged Godzilla appearance until the 3rd act. I understand they wanted to flesh out the human characters a bit or maybe wanted us to be a bit patience for the final fight but come on at least make the screen time for both the humans and Godzilla even.

Another negative to this film is they kill off Bryan Cranston's character! Why?! People wanted to see Heisenberg and Godzilla in a movie together. The film even makes it seem like his the main character because in the first act they give us a back story about how he lost his wife making us care for him but the moment the other monsters appear he dies! Instead we now focus on his son Ford(Aaron-Taylor Johnson).

• Positives

One thing to give the film credit for his Godzilla's design. He looks just like his classic self and not whatever the hell that thing was back in 1998. Have you figured out that I'm not a big fan of the Godzilla film we got back in 1998.

Another thing I love about this movie is Ken Watanbe's performance. He is one of the best parts in this film he plays the scientist named Dr. Ishiro Serizawa a man who believes that Godzilla's existence is good for nature. Every scene with him no matter how little is great.

The other thing this film gets right is the one thing we came to see and that's Godzilla fighting other monsters! Yes we do get very little of that but by the end of the movie it's awesome to see Godzilla rip these other creatures apart.

Godzilla(2014) has a great design for the King of the Monsters, awesome fight scenes between Godzilla and the other monsters and great performances. The only problems this film has is killing off Joe Brody(Bryan Cranston) and given us a lack of Godzilla let's hope the sequel will fix some of these problems.

My final rating for this movie is Great.

A Look Back at Samurai Jack

With Samurai Jack finally returning to TV on Adult Swim in only 3 days I thought I should review it. I at first I wasn't going to do this because I'm talking about a TV show not a movie but I figured I give it a try so let's do this let's review Samurai Jack.

Samurai Jack tells the story a samurai sent to the future where the evil Aku's might rules all and he must fight his way through Aku's evil forces to return to his timeline and stop Aku from ruling the world.

The show premiered August 10,2001 and ended on September 25,2004 with four seasons and fifty-two episodes.

• Negatives

I have nothing bad to say let's move on.

• Positives

One positive to give this show is the theme song. It's an awesome theme even thought the only parts of it I can make out are Jack.

Another thing that I loved about this show is it's animation it's nice and fluent. It also does something that no other cartoon did was that every character, object, and environment have none of those thick black lines that every other cartoon has.

One thing I loved about this show was the action. The action in this show was crazy swords were always clashing with each other, lasers were going off, and robots were getting sliced left and right it was awesome! Now not every episode was all about action some episodes were just comedic too sort of show that is show isn't all about being dark and serious.

Speaking of robots getting sliced that was the show's way of getting around the censors. So if the creator Genndy Tartakovsky wanted Jack to cut a limb off instead of it being alien's arm getting cut off and blood spewing all over the place it would a robot's arm getting cut off and oil spewing all over the place. It was a smart move in my book.

Samurai Jack is one of the best cartoons to be made for Cartoon Network. The theme song is cool, I liked the creative choice not use thick black lines on the characters and everything else, every episode of the show was good ranging from serious to humorous, and above all it was always awesome to see Jack slice and dice some bad guys.

My final rating for this show is A Must Watch.

I can't wait for March 11 it's going to be great to have Samurai Jack back on television for one more time and this time things are going to get very bloody.

Road to Justice League - Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths

Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths is 2010 direct-to-video animated movie. The story is a heroic Lex Luthor travels to an alternate universe and ask help from the Justice League to stop the evil Crime Syndicate.

Before I start the review I actually want to tell you a little story about this film. It was going to be called Justice League: Worlds Collide and it was going to bridge the gaps between  the cartoon Justice League and it's successor Justice League: Unlimited.

• Negatives

I have no problems let's move on.

• Mix

Let's get this out of the way the movie's story it's really not that creative. We have seen the Justice League fight evil versions of themselves lots of times. But all the positives I'm going to give this movie kind of brushes that aside.

• Positives

One thing I love about this film is it's art style. It's not Bruce Timm's artwork or someone trying to copy it. It's the film's own style and nothing else.

Another thing this movie does right is the writing that the late Dwayne McDuffie has written. The dialogue in this movie is quotable. One for my favorite lines in this movie is between Superman(Mark Harmon) and President Slade Wilson(Bruce Davison) it goes like this "Superman- There's a saying on my world. The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing". "President Slade Wilson- It's easy for someone like you to be brave but most of us aren't bulletproof".

The animation is just like Justice League: The New Frontier it's very good for DVD standards but again nothing I would put in theaters.

I also really enjoyed all the scenes with The Flash. Seriously he was hilarious in this film.

I also give the film points for making Owlman just not care anymore once he discovers the multiverse because he realizes it doesn't matter what choose you make because in his mind an alternate version of you made the decision that you didn't make. It's a nice touch because it just shows how sinister he is compared to Batman.

The one aspect I loved the most in this movie was seeing the Justice League and the Crime Syndicate fight each other because the only time I got that was in the comics or that one time in the Justice League cartoon when it was Justice League vs. Justice Lords. So finally seeing these two teams fight each other on film was I dream come true.

Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths has a nice art style, great dialogue, the animation is good, The Flash is very funny in this movie, I loved how that made Owlman just not care anymore, and it's very enjoyable to see the Justice League and Crime Syndicate fight even thought the premise isn't all that creative.

My final rating for this movie is Great.

Logan Easter Eggs & References

Before I start to tell you about something's I noticed in Logan I want to say at first I didn't want to do things but since a lot of people liked my The Lego Batman Movie Easter Egg & References I decided to do the same with Logan. Just like my Lego Batman post I won't list all of them just somethings I noticed so let's get started.

Before the film even starts we have a teaser to Deadpool 2. If features a man being mugged and Deadpool is going to try to stop that from happening so he enters a phone booth. Yes Deadpool is making of fun of the Christopher Reeve's version of Superman theme song and all.

The story for Logan was loosely based of the Marvel comic Old Man Logan. For one Hugh Jackman looks like Old Man Logan what with the shorter hair and beard. Also just like the comic the movie does have a road trip plot in it as well the only difference is instead of Logan & Hawkeye delivering a case to get paid so Logan can pay his rent to the "Hulk Gang" it's Logan & Charles Xavier taking X-23 to a location called Eden which is to be a safe heaven for mutants.

Another thing the movie takes from Old Man Logan is the death of the X-Men. However instead of Wolverine being tricked by Mysterio into cutting  and stabbing them all it's Charles Xavier who did it because he had a seizure-induced physic attack.

When Charles Xavier is rambling he brings up the Statue of Liberty. This could be a reference to the final fight in the very first X-Men film back in 2000.

In part of the movie we given a close-up of a samurai sword. It's not for certain if this is the same sword that Wolverine got from a young Yashida back in the 2013 film The Wolverine. But I doubt it because this is the new timeline not the old timeline.

One of the villains in this movie are The Reavers. The Reavers are cyborg criminals who are determined to kill the X-Men. However in this movie we don't see Lady Deathstrike and also the film they seem to go as far as replacing limbs with machine parts rather than their bodies leaving only their heads as the only organic thing left.

Another villain in this movie is X-24. He is a clone of Wolverine only his more feral, doesn't have his own healing factor, and his adamantium skeleton is much weaker than Wolverine's. Now he's not based on any comic book character the closes person I can think of his Romulus but him and X-24 are not the same character.

Speaking of X-24's healing factor! In the movie both him and Wolverine regenerate by using a special unnamed serum. This could be a nod to the Regen Serum used in the comic "The Death of Wolverine" because in that story Logan isn't healing as quick as it usual does so he as to use that serum to heal but scars will still remain. In the comic it was used to make sure test subjects survived the adamantium bonding process. In the movie it just heals and I guess give you an adrenaline rush.

Now in Logan we are given a reason to why mutants are on the brink of extinction. The reason is a virus killed them. This is a variation to the Legacy Virus in the comics the virus is something that can kill mutants but leave humans & Inhumans unaffected. However the virus in Logan was created by a man named Zander Rice in the comics it was created by a man named Stryfe.

The final scene in the movie ends with Logan dying from wounds inflected by X-24. Now I'm not sure if this was taking from the comic book event "Death of Wolverine" or maybe it's just a coincidence either way it was sad to Logan/Wolverine die in the comics and in the movie after such a long legacy.

That's all the easter eggs & references I got come back later because I'm going to have reviews for Godzilla(2014), Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, both the Disney's animated Beauty and The Beast film and the upcoming live-action film, and maybe I'll review the new Power Rangers movie I don't know for sure but I'll think about and also somewhere during this month I'll be taking about a certain film that we almost got but never did.

Logan Review

Logan is the ninth film in the X-Men film series and the third and final Wolverine movie. The story is a weary Logan (Hugh Jackman) and a very sick Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) are hiding out on the Mexican border but they have to come out of hiding to help a young mutant girl.

• Negatives

One issue I have with this film is a certain villain. I won't give it away I'll just say he gives Wolverine one hell of a beat down.

• Positives

A thing to love about this movie is the performances mainly from Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, and Dafne Keen who plays X-23. Hugh Jackman is great at playing a Wolverine who is weathered and weary. Patrick Stewart does a great job at playing an unwell and weak old man. Even Dafne Keen goes great as playing X-23 as this rage filled animal.

Another point this film deserves is how it balances between being an action film and a drama film. One thing doesn't feel like it's favored over the other. There's not too much action and there's not too much drama.

The film also does something I thought it couldn't pull off and that's they put the X-Men comics in the movie. They are used as a plot point about a destination that is save for mutants and how Wolverine can complain about how that's not how things really happened in the film's universe.

Also this film did something to me that most films don't do to me. What it did was when the film was over I was sad. The reason is the film took me on this journey with Logan on his final adventure and once the end credits came up that's it I don't get to see Hugh Jackman as Wolverine anymore.

Logan definitely send Hugh Jackman out with a bang. Although I have a problem with one villain the performances are amazing, it balances the action and drama, that thing with the X-Men comics was pretty clever and something never done before in a superhero movie and it's also a great send off to Wolverine.

My final rating for this movie is Great.

P.S. The comics they used aren't real. There just comics made by artist that 20th Century Fox paid to draw since they don't own the rights to the actual Marvel comics. It's kind of a nice middle finger to Marvel when I think about it.

Road to Spider-Man: Homecoming - Spider-Man 2 Review

Spider-Man 2 is a 2004 film. It tells the story of how Peter Parker(Tobey Maguire) is having some trouble with his personal life while at the same time he must battle a new villain named Doctor Octopus(Alfred Molina).

• Negatives

My only problem with this film is Mary Jane(Kristen Dunst) kind of has a petty reason to beat Peter down. Her whole reason for being upset with Peter is he missed her play. I know that would bother some people but like I said it made her seem pretty selfish.

• Positives

One thing to love about this film is yet again the cast performances. They continue to do a go job at portraying these characters I really loved James Franco in this one because of how much anger is showing in this film. There's an excellent scene in where Harry is drunk and just slaps Peter because he stills shows resentment of his father's death in the previous film.

I also like how this film just beats Peter down. They throw almost everything at him such as his late on his studies at college, he gets fired from his job, Mary Jane the girl he loves is going to marry J. Jonah Jameson's son and his also losing his powers. Then when the film comes to an end it's just so great that Peter has saved the day and he also gets the girl.

Another thing this film does right is action. The action here is a must watch. The best action scene in this movie is that train fight between Doc Ock and Spider-Man.

This film also has a great series of scenes when Peter decides not to be Spider-Man anymore because of how this film just beats him down. It's also a good throwback to the story Spider-Man: No More(1967). Read that it's a classic and is one of the best Spider-Man stories to be written.

Spider-Man 2 has great performances, really makes you root for Peter to win, has awesome action, and also has good character development.

Final Rating for this move is Great

So anyway March is going to be a crazy I'm going to be reviewing Logan I can't wait for that movie, I'm also going to be reviewing Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths as part of my Road to Justice League. I'll also review Samurai Jack because the show is finally coming back to TV. I'm going to have a look back at the animated Beauty and the Beast movie and 2014's Godzilla. I might review the new Power Rangers movie. I'm also going to have a new segment on my blog.
