Welcome back to another What You Probably Didn't Know About. So anyhow you guys usually you only see these things when it's for an upcoming movie. I did it with Antz for The Boss Baby, I did it for The Fast and The Furious for The Fate of the Furious, and Guardians of the Galaxy because the sequel was coming out. What's my reasoning for this? Just for fun that's it just wanted to do this for the fun of it. Let's get this started and as always despite numbering these are in no particular order.
1. When one of the members of Fight Club sprays a priest the camera shakes just a little bit. This was because the cameraman couldn't help but laugh.
2. Fight Club contains two warnings on the DVD. One is the copyright warning from the FBI & the other is from Tyler Durden himself.
3. Brad Pitt didn't want his parents to see Fight Club. However he couldn't convince them not to watch it. Their minds were later changed after the chemical burn scene.
4. Before Edward Norton(he plays The Narrator) & Brad Pitt(he plays Tyler Durden) got ready for the ear punch scene the director David Fincher pulled Edward aside and told him to actually hit Brad in the ear. After the hit to the ear you can see Edward Norton laughing & smiley while Brad Pitt was in pain.
5. Chuck Palahniuk the author of the book Fight Club has stated he finds the movie to be an improvement to his novel.
6. When Tyler catches The Narrator listening to him having sex with Marla he is wearing a glove. That was Brad's idea. It also cause some controversy with President of Production at Fox 2000 Picture Laura Ziskin. She was horrified by the idea and wanted the scene to be removed. Then at a subsequent test screening the appearance of the glove got a huge laugh this would later change her mind.
7. There are three detectives whose names are Detective Andrew, Detective Kevin, and Detective Walker. Making up the name Andrew Kevin Walker he was the writer for David Fincher's 1995 film Seven(also starring Brad Pitt). This is nod for when Andrew did some uncredited work for the movie's script.
8. Both Brad Pitt and Edward Norton really learned how to make soap just for this film.
9. Helena Bonham Carter(she plays Marla Singer) told her makeup artist Julie Pearce to apply her eye makeup with her left hand. She felt that Marla was not the type of person to be skilled or care about correctly applying makeup.
10. Both Brad Pitt & Edward Norton took basic boxing, taekwondo, and grappling lessons to prepare for their roles. They also studied hours of UFC programming. Pitt also visited a dentist to have his front tooth chipped.
11. After David Fincher edited the film, the studio executives were baffled by the piece and unsure of how to market it. Fincher had wanted a unique marketing idea which would mirror the film's theme of anti-commercialism, but the studio has worried about a possible backlash to the film, the studios rejected Fincher's idea(don't worry these aren't lost you can find them on the DVD their titled "Internet Spots"). So their idea was to market the film around Brad Pitt's presence as well as market it around the fighting(even thought the fights have a minor role). The campaign was highly criticized because people had the impression it was just about men beating each other up it was also criticized because the marketing ignored all of the comic and satire elements to the film and it has criticized because it targeted the wrong audience. David Fincher was also furious whenever the film's TV ads would appear on WWE & UFC programming.

David Fincher was also furious whenever the film's TV ads would appear on WWE & UFC programming.
12. David Fincher wanted a single frame flash of Tyler Durden during the 20th Century Fox logo however the studio's legal department wouldn't let him. He then tried to get Tyler to appear during the Regency Enterprises logo but the President of Regency Arnon Milchan also wouldn't allow it.
13. Throughout the film Tyler can be seen wearing Blue-Blocker sunglasses. Blue-Blockers are a type of sunglasses that are commonly used for insomniacs to filter out blue light.
14. The cave scene where The Narrator meets a penguin was inspired by the 1974 film The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. This was intended by David Fincher as a "warning" for how surreal the movie was going to become.
15. Starbucks pulled their name from the coffee shop destruction scene. They had no problem placing their product in the film but they didn't want their being destroyed in that scene. So instead the gold globe would crash into a shop named Gratifico Coffee.
16. If you pay attention closely to the film you'll noticed there's a cup of coffee in every scene.
17. Following the film's release their became real life fight clubs that have started in the United States. A "Gentlemen's Fight Club" was started back in 2000 at California, Menlo Park and had members mostly in the high tech industry.
18. The line "The first rule of Fight Club is you do not talk about Fight Club" was #27 of "The 100 Greatest Movie Lines" by Premiere in 2007. The line is also functional to both the plot and to remind us the audience not to give away the twist to the film.
19. Speaking of that twist Rosie O'Donnell gave it away! On the Friday the film was released theatrically around the United States. She appeared on her TV show and revealed that she saw the film a week earlier and claimed she was unable to sleep ever since. She then proceeded to give away the big twist which was also the ending to the film and urged her fans not to see it at all cost. The incident was brought up in the DVD commentary track which featured David Fincher, Edward Norton, and Brad Pitt with Pitt claiming that O'Donnell's actions were unforgivable. Which I agree with Brad that was a dick move.
20. Bob(played by Meatloaf) wears a shirt during his fights. Even thought one of the rules to Fight Club is no shirts and no shoes during fights. This is simply to cover up Meatloaf's fat suit.
21. The apartment The Narrator lives in is actually based on an apartment David Fincher lived in at the time when he first moved to Los Angeles. Fincher decided to model the location on this apartment because he claims that whilst was living there & he wanted to blow it up. Seems reasonable to me.
22. Courtney Love and Winona Ryder were also considered for the role of Marla Singer but in the end it came down to Helena Bonham Carter & Reese Witherspoon. David Fincher wanted Bonham Carter but the studio wanted a bigger name and chose to go with Witherspoon. In the end Helena got the role because Witherspoon dropped out because she thought it was "too dark".

23. Almost every time Tyler & Marla are done smoking a cigarette they just throw it away instead of putting it out.
24. During the bar scene between Tyler & The Narrator get on the topic about "consumers". Brad Pitt's input on that conversation is very similar to his monologue in the 1995 film Twelve Monkeys.
25. Originally Brad Pitt didn't have any interest about being the film. It wasn't until David Fincher arrived at Brad Pitt's doorstep during the making of the 1998 film Meet Joe Black. He insisted that they go for beers it over that beer that Fincher pitched Fight Club and Pitt agreed to be in the movie.
26. The typeface used for the film's title & logo is named "Fight This".
27. David Fincher turned down an offer to direct 8MM(1999) because he was comminuted to this movie.
28. The original "pillow talk" scene had Marla saying "I want to have your abortion". When this was objected to by Fox 2000 Pictures' President of Production Laura Ziskin, David Fincher said he would change it on the proviso that the new line couldn't be cut. Ziskin agreed and Fincher wrote the replacement line "I haven't been fucked like that since grade school". Ziskin saw the new line and she was even more furious and asked for the original line to be put back in. However per their deal David refused.
So I hoped you enjoyed another edition of What You Probably Didn't Know. I had a lot of fun with this and I hope to do more that aren't revolved around an upcoming movie related to a franchise.
