Note: This post contains spoilers. You have been warned.
Well it's that time again where I tell you about a few Easter Eggs I noticed. As always I'm only listing a couple of these not every single one. Anyhow enough of that let's get started here are some of the Easter Eggs I found in Wonder Woman.
Our first Easter Egg is a Wayne Enterprises truck drives up to a museum that Diana/Wonder Woman works at. The truck drivers hand Diana a briefcase that contains a photo of her, Steve Trevor and company during World War I.
Speaking of that photo the movie gives us details of who those guys are, where they are, and when they took the photo. The men in that photo with Wonder Woman are from left to right Sameer, Steve Trevor, Chief, and Charlie. They took that photo after they passed No Man's Land to a village in Belgium where they successful liberated a village from German soldiers who were terrorizing it.
Zack Snyder has a quick cameo in the movie. He plays an allied soldier. This is also he's second time having a cameo in a DC Extended Universe movie he's first was being Bruce Wayne's hand in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
The movie also has real life German general. That being Erich Ludendorff. He's full name is Erich Friedrich Wilhelm Ludendorff they did change him a little bit one them being he huffs some kind of powder that Dr. Poison gives him to make him stronger & in the movie he dies during the closing days of the war in reality that didn't happen.
The movie also has period accurate posters. One of the most notable ones is "The kitchen is the key to victory eat less bread".
The movie gives us both of Wonder Woman's origin stories. There's her original origin in where her mother made her out of clay and the Gods gave her life. This is actually just a cover up because her real origin in the movie is she's daughter of Zeus & Queen Hippolyta thus making her a demigoddess. This origin was based on her New 52 origin.
We get a to know a few of the Amazons. One of them being Antiope. In the movie she is Queen Hippolyta's sister. This is a could be a nod to George Perez's Wonder Woman run during the 80's.
The other Amazon were introduced to is Artemis(in the movie she is played by boxer Ann Wolfe). The character has a long history with Diana at one point she even took the mantle of Wonder Woman.
Lucy Davis plays the character Etta Candy. Etta is one of Wonder Woman's supporting characters since debuting in 1942 in Sensation Comics #2.
Now let's talk about some of the others villains one of them being Ares. Ares in the Wonder Woman comics is one of her most formidable foes. Also in the movie he gives a speech about how "war is truth". A speech that's very similar in Wonder Woman #37 by Gail Simone.
The other villain to appear in this movie is Dr. Poison. She works for Ares & Erich Ludendorff. She helps both of them by trying to win the war for Ludendorff and helps Ares by wiping out humanity to "purify" the world. The movie also incorporates a nod to her original green suit only it doesn't hide her gender like it did in her first appearance.
Now to talk about everyones favorite easter egg or at least my favorite. When Diana and Steve are in London they stop to buy some ice cream. Diana says that it's wonderful & the guy who sold it to them should be proud of this achievement. This is a nod when she had ice cream for the first in Justice League #3 (in The New 52 continuity).
When Steve arrives at Themyscira he calls it Paradise Island. This is a reference to Themyscira's original name. The name was later changed to Themyscira in 1987 when Wonder Woman was having a relaunch.
At one point in the film Wonder Woman saves Steve from being shot. This scene is kind of familiar it almost gives you a feeling of the 1978 film Superman starring Christopher Reeve. Don't know if that was intentional or unintentional either way it's a great scene.
We also get an alumni from the 1970's Wonder Woman TV show one of the actress being Rachel Pickup. In the show she played a character named Fausta Grables aka The Nazi Wonder Woman. While she is credited as Fausta Grables she is in no way playing the same character. In the movie she was just a party guest.
Wonder Woman also gives us a Deathstroke easter egg that being the Godkiller sword. There are some notably changes to it one of them being it's appears it just looks like a regular sword in the comics it's gold and it's blade is huge even the handle is different. Another change was it wasn't given to Deathstroke but Wonder Woman stole it while she was preparing to put an early end to World War I.
During Wonder Woman's fight with Ares she is shown to shoot lighting. This takes inspiration from Wonder Woman #39 by Gail Simone when Zeus gave her this power.
At one point in the film Steve Trevor hands he's fellow soldiers books written by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Edgar Rice Burroughs is an author best known for his work on Tarzan and John Carter of Mars.
At the end of the movie Wonder Woman hears a loud boom and goes off to find out and stop whatever it is. Some of speculated that this could be a possible boom tube that will lead to events in the upcoming Justice League film. A boom tube in DC Comics is a way to travel from one destination to another. The people who commonly use these are Darkseid and as of recently the Justice League. Don't know if that's the case we'll just have to wait and find out or maybe it will never be explained.
So those are some of the Easter Eggs I found in Wonder Woman. I hoped you enjoyed this.
